Do you have any facts or figures that show that capital punishment acts as a deterrent?

Do you have any that it would not?

Pretty much every study done into the subject.

But as you're a fan of 'common sense' - does it work in American states that have it?

(Hint - begins with 'n')

So you shouldn't have to pay taxes to the state?

Fence?

Neither did your statement said it would, but it would save the tax payer money and the risk involved.

who cares if it can't stop the crime, they won't be able to do it again at least
#11
Chemical castration would have them thinking twice. Either way like the poster said above it wouldnt eradicate the crime but it would prevent the offender from doing so again.

OP said bringing back the death penalty would 'get it sorted', i.e. stop it happening in the first place.

I pointed out there's no proof it would.

Your point is off-topic.

Any proof of that? A lot of people's first thought is that it would, but in many systems it's been shown it doesn't.

lets hang the parents of these children and all the incompetent social workers from the same tree!

To be fair what chance did he have of losing his virginity any other way. i dont even think getting a girl drunk would have helped his cause.

over the past 12 years at least 30 convicted murderers have been released to murder again, it should of been a deterrent for the second lot of victims.

90% of sex offenders are related to the victim - we should kill all families just to be on the safe side.:viking:

For your consideration -

Yet, with all the polls, statistics, and studies conducted to discourage the practice of the death penalty in the United States, other nations have found the death penalty, as well as other harsh punishments, is not a violation to human and civil rights, but an effective tool in keeping public safety.

Singapore's criminal laws are some of the most extreme and consistent laws found in all of the world. Its government still employs the use of corporal punishment for some offenses that would receive a mere parole sentence in the U.S. Singapore's citizens have stated that even though its punishments are severe and outrageous to some, their streets are safer, cleaner, and the quality of life in Singapore is valued more because of these punishments.

In this country [Singapore] the punishments that undergo heavy crossfire in the U.S. are swiftly carried out and as a result, crime in Singapore is significantly lower in comparison to the U.S. crime rates. There is a consistent mandatory death sentence for narcotic offenders. A death sentence is also immediately carried out for anyone who opens fire while committing an unlawful act - whether or not you shoot anyone or anything is not taken into consideration.

Singapore's officials argue that its strict laws and swift, severe punishment are what sets it aside from a crime-ridden place like New York City. Of course, opponents to CP (corporal punishment) argue that this is also a cruel and unusual way to deter crime. However, those that argue this only need to compare the crime rates of Singapore to those of the United States.

not off topic at all, surely preventing the huge number of repeat offender's who get off with minor sentances would also be "getting it sorted"

So you want to punish someone who has raped by raping them! Who would do the raping exactly?

Are you afraid of something, if you know getting whacked is the outcome of raping a close relative them if that does not serve as s deterrent and then you still went ahead to commit the crime, you really do not deserve to be amongst the living....seriously.
#23
Well, I'm pretty sure they'll have newspapers in prison, so hopefully someone in there reads this and decides to go the "eye for an eye" route...
#24
This poor little soul will probably be released early because of an abuse of his human rights...

Actually, he was referring to 'evil children' who have no previous convictions for violent crime, so again it really has nothing to do with what you're saying.

This would have been dealt with in a very harsher way if UKIP/BNP were in power

why is his identity allowed to be shown? just out of interest, always thought because of his age they couldn't

Also another thing regarding punishment; what happened if the UK adopted a similar style to places like dubai?
