Another nail in the High Street coffin? Retailer Mothercare Closes 110 Stores In UK

The retailer will shut 110 stores and focus instead on its out-of-town Parenting Centres, which contain its Early Learning Centre brand.

Mothercare says around 250 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the changes.

Total store numbers will fall from 373 to 266 in the UK but the company says it expects big savings from the restructuring.

Over the last three years it has reduced its town estate by a quarter.

expensive really and comparable quality is available else where for cheaper, long have the days gone when a high street shop can rely on its brand history

When looking for a dress for a 2 year old for a wedding last year i found it was cheaper for me to buy a Ted Baker dress than a Mother care dress, was quite a bit cheaper too

does this mean closing down sales? They were selling their shoes for a pound when the bolton one closed.

Over-priced retailer - shame for the employees, but as a store - byeeeee!

It'll be a shame for parents to be. I suspect quite a few people go into Mothercare to check out and try the prams, cots, branded items etc and then find them cheaper online and purchase them there.
In my town, the Mothercare and ELC are being closed and a new joint one is supposed to be opening out of town near the Argos, Next, Homebase etc, I wonder if that will still happen.

Another store that would rather make £10 profit on one thing than have sensible prices and make £5 profit on a **** load of stuff.
