I really want Arkam Asylum GOTY but its price is not coming down. The classics version however is dirt cheap.

If I got the Classic version and later got the GOTY would my achievements in Classic be applied to GOTY?

LOL Only answr if you are really really sure!

it will not as you can get 4,000 gamer score with this game, eg 2 versions on xbox 360 and 2 versions for windows live

AFAIK Its only the one version of the game on the 360 except the goty comes with more content. You can get the content at a later date and get the extra achievements. Or if you swap to the goty then it will add to your achievements. Like with fallout.

GOTY will have the same 1000 initial gamerscore, but it will also include the gamerscore for the other parts, so yes if you for example got all but 2 of the achievements in the classic, you would have them still on the GOTY version

So to answer your question yes (for example fallout 3 goty, has the 1000 gamerscore same as classic version and then has the extra achievements for the expansion packs)

Sorry but that's not right ....it's as i initially said.

So it's clear.

Batman AA non goty is listed as Batman Arkham Asylum in achievement list

Batman AA GOTY is listed in achievements under it's own name which is different

You have 2 versions for the 360 both use their own naming for game saves as well and both are different and not compatible with each other.

Install the GOTY version to HDD and try to play from HDD using the non GOTY version and the disc continuously spins because it's reading it from DISC and not the HDD installed version

I've just had a friend play the goty version to get the same 5g she got in the normal version 4 months ... eg free flow combo 5 achievement . It's listed twice now in her achievement list under her new game save.

So do not buy the non goty version expecting to continue your game or your achievements for that game.
