Ant Catching!!!

What do I do on a hot saturday afternoon - try and catch ants with my 2 & 4 year olds. Bought the blue gel Antquarium from Argos a while back (saw it here in the deals section) and now I'm really beginning to wish I hadn't bothered!! Anyone else get one? Once you've caught the 1st one you think 'hey, this is easy enough'. But after that it all goes down hill. The reason is you have to take the lid off to get the ants in and so the ones you have got all escape!! I've got 4 alive ones so far (need 12-20) and 3 squashed ones, which don't count and I've been doing it all afternoon! ou're supposed to change the ants after 14 days fo new ones - I can't see that happening!

Try putting down some sort of bait...ie. jam, fruit, or something sweet you will have them all in minutes!

Oh, thanks for that - perhaps you could collect them for me and then post them to me ;-) lol

Yes, tried that. Put some honey down but the few that went to it kind of got stuck as I tried to pick them up with a stick they got pushed under! I'm drowning them now!! lol

add some water to the honey and make it more runny, almost watery if you can and they'll still be attracted to it plus you won't drown them!

We had a load the other week first time didnt have any ant powder but did find the hole where they nested so squirted half a can of lighter fuel (liquid not gas) down the hole and the rest all round the area! Lit it kaboom sorted the second time had some powder but not as much fun as the pyro method!!!

Yeah i had one of these. Great fun.

Did you get a voucher to send off for some ants? If so i advise you do.

The ants you get in the garden are lazy ******s (B uggers is censored?), i tried it with them and in 2 days had done basically nothing. My "hardcore" ants arrived a few days later and got to work straight away. They dont hang around at all.

No, I didn't. A friend of mine did though but she had the earth ant farm - I assumed it was just coz it was a different one.

Also your right, trying to catch them outside one, without hurting them, two keeping them all in one pot without others escaping, and three, getting them all in the ant farm without and escapees.

Also, a tip, with the little air holes in the top, put some cotton wool, or something in them as the little gits can easily fit though!

I ordered mine through the post with that voucher. They did build there tunnels but then eventually stopped doing anything and one morning i woke up and they had gone!! No idea where they went! Good fun for a while though

The ants cost £3.50 a set (add an extra £1 for shipping outside the UK). Just send a cheque made payable to "Blades biological ltd" to Blades Biological Ltd, Cowden, edenbridge, TN8 7DX.

Found this on a website, the address and company are correct. I know you cant order over the phone to them but maybe just give them a call to confirm price etc, think its an extra £1ish for card payments.

They are expensive, but they aint normal garden ants, these are grafters and give you quick results in the ant farm. WOrth the money atleast once to see them go:thumbsup:
