Don't know about how it is resource wise, but apart from AVG, Avast is a free one that seems to get recommended a lot.

Nod 32 is the one that used to get recommended by the PC Games mags I read as the best/least resource hogging AV software, but it's not free and that was a couple years ago now.

i look after about 10 mates machines and see plenty at work, use a mixture but avast is on my system, then again nerver checked resource usage, it does the job and i dont notice it, also try www.free-av.com, avira.
Its quite "sprightly", but occasion dialogue in german and annoying web page during updates

Why not AVG? I have it on my computers and not seen any slowdown.

I originally moved from avg 2 yrs ago when i got xp64 and they didnt support it, but recently on a few m8's machines i have noticed avg "falling over" on the update process.
when its happened i've moved those machines to avira or avast

hypathetically if there was an ORGanisation called mininova but .com was already taken... what would their url be?

Without going into the ethics of doing so, is security software something you really want to be downloading from such places?

Echoed ! The logic defies belief really :?

Avast for me for the last few years. Seems to work pretty well and, touch wood, nothing has got through.
