A dear old friend of ours has a newish computer but no anti virus software.. the thing is she is still on dial-up so downloading a package would take her all day. is there a anti virus progam i can download for her on my computer and then copy to hers? avg just has a 1mb .exe program which then installs the rest from the internet. so no good

[FONT=Verdana]Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus

Downloads updates quickly enough over dial-up for some of the more remote clients I've carried out work with - only ones to watch out for are engine updates.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Install AVG on your computer, then go into the program files and copy it all to a USB drive.

AVG total file size is about 75mb , if you were to download it onto a pen/flashdrive . Another free one is Avira , it's very good and is about 25mb in file size . Go get it at w*w.majorgeeks.com .Look under the headings on the left hand side ................Anti-virus . There all listed alphabetically. Download to pen/flashdrive , external drive , CD or whatever you have handy and transfer it to your friends PC.

The problem with AVG is that the original download is only 1mb and when you run that it runs the 75mb from the internet so no way of saving it..well not that I know of.. but thanks I've gone for the Avira rep to you all for your help

Thats not strictly true ................it must depend where you download from . I have always downloaded anti-virus/spyware programs from links at majorgeeks and do it regular , so I always have new copys at hand when I need them . The files downloaded have always been the full versions .Heres an example of files in an old backup folder on my desktop:
Avast =29.8MB , AVG 8.5 = 61.4MB , Avira = 30.8 MB . I have NEVER had a 1mb file that links to the internet . Maybe if you download from the makers website , that must be the case . But try majorgeeks .
