hi i use avast antivirus ad-aware and spybot search and destroy they are all free to download from the web and i find them rely good hope it helps :-D

for common user like me i believe comodo internet security is the most suitable as it include everything: firewall, antivirus (+antispy etc) and also system defense

its UK made  and free at www.comodo.com

the av may not be the best but its all in one and not taking too much resource.

youll be safe especially if youre using router which by default is a form of firewall

i have a BT home-hub router, but it was a password on it...

i agree with nuabdi but use avast anti virus on top of comodo ....... use comodo to detect them but use avast to remove them

they work brilliantly together :)

Thats not true.

I can go on and on about why this is not true but I'm sure you've recieved various replies even whilst I'm typing this so I'll let it be.

But to answer the OP's question, when people say AVG, or Commando etc. are very good they do mean in terms of freeware. You get what you pay for, so if you are making online purchases (well you are on HUKD :p) then I would recommend something more robust.

Personally I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security suite 7.0 (I had a free upgrade to the 2009 version but I was not very impressed), can't fault it in the slightest.

well im not saying theyre totally safe zak dont get me wrong

even if you use kaspesky or NOD32 they will only give you around 96% detection rate.. may be 98-99% at the very top, there are after all 30000 new virus every day...

thats why they create other form of protection such as sandboxie or returnil or threatfire oin top of antivirus and firewall

also not all people have enough money to splash on antivirus...

bear in mind also that freware is not totally free. its free for us but someone else may be paying for it e.g. advertisement or commercial website that are safety endorsed by comodo etc

all my life i have always use freeware as first option and i havent had problem so far...
