Don't ask me how, but this appeared on mates laptop. We can't get any programme to run, windows email, itunes, IE (even in safemode) - all we get is a popup saying the pc is at risk and then asks us to purchase the programme! Have run malwarebytes and this hasn't helped. PC World want £50 to remove it and local IT engineer wants £40. If anyone has any knowlegde of removing this nasty without harming computer, I'd be really grateful. Thanks.

I had one similar to this on a friends laptop, it was all user specific so, easiest thing to do is to create another user account if one doesn't already exist. If you need to create one it more than likely will not allow you to open control panel so you will need to start the laptop in Safe mode, create the account, log on to the new account and transfer all files across to the new user account.

I'll do it for £35

No seriously, Try booting in safemode ( Press f8 on start up ) and running malwarebytes ( make sure it's up to date ).

Try Spybot

If that fails try superantispyware

Also a very good deep scap with Combofix

If you need any more help try here

You could also try booting from Avira http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-rescue-system download the .ISO file and burn it to a CD

What is the exact message? Google it and I'm sure you'll find the cure pretty easily.
