We are looking for a 7 seater vehicle for us, kids, au pair and grandparents. My husband is looking at a new shape volvo (with a 2,3,2 configuration). He is likely just to buy this without doing a load of research, Can anyone suggest an alternative? We have seen a chrysler grand voyager - great gizmos but the size of a house to drive so too big, and the audi version - too small). It needs to be able to seat 5 adults if it had to plus 2 kids and the audi can only get kids in the 3rd row. Saw a zafira today and that really is not in the league of what we are looking for. Does anyone have something similar or know of comparables. Thanks a lot.

Well we can't leave her behind when we go out for day trips! It would n't be fair.

would go for the Grand espace

There are some other 7 seater possibilities.

Volkswagon Touran, and Mazda 5

The problem is that if you go for the small/medium sized MPVs - the third row of seats can be small and have extremely limited luggage space (and more worringly the crumple zone is probably where the children sit)

Have to agree with the 7 seat verso - good car.

S-max is good too, may depreciate more though . . .

Volvo's are bulletproof, and if its the XC90 - budget wise the above two may be "cheap" in comparison.

Touran is ok with good diesel engines, but if it is the Volvo XC90, its a good choice.

Toureg is good too, its the same underpinnings as a Porsche Cayenne, but the diesel engines are better suited to the size of car.

the voyager was also the easiest car to break into in a test i saw. less than 5 seconds!

The Verso used to (don't know if it still does) have these really nifty booster seat built-in to the two outermost passenger seats. So if you are carrying kids you just lift the middle part of the seat - and put it down for adults...

Whils their petrols aren't bad, they are pretty far behind when it comes to diesels.

This is what Im looking at for my next car purchase. Saw it at the ExCel Motorshow in London.

About £12k second I believe, but you can get them as cheap as around £9k?
Also, it has fewer emissions. A Possible Grade C/D tax band?

I was looking at a Zafira, but tax is a lot more on those! I think their Grade was an F!

Remember to be careful when buying a car based upon its tax group. Although it might cost £x extra per year in tax, it will be nothing compared with all of the other costs involved and such really not be a major decision point. If you owned a car for 3 years and the tax difference was £50, it would be just £150, compared with the thousands in depreciation, fuel, servicing and consumables.

Ive got a 08 touran and i went throught the lot before buying!! lol
these are my oppinion
zafira and C4= cheaply built poor quality bad drives! both struggled with 5 adults

toyota was a big no no as its tiny compared to the others!

both the honda and xc90 wernt what i was looking at so never really sampled those!!

Chrysler voyager was amazing (tho different seating to what you said 2+2+3) BUT (theres always 1!!) costs more than 10k more than these others and depreciated like a bowling ball from the 5th floor!!

so i was left with a grande scenic and the touran (never ever considered a kia!!) the scenic was lovely nice drive lots of extras for the trim levels etc so here comes the but again!! It's a renault and will inevitably leave you at the side of the road sooner or later and i am a fan of renaults ive had 3 lagunas and they only stopped because my oh cant take any more repair bills!!!

so as for the touran is a nice car not the best drive but that isnt why your buying it! (better than zafira and c4 by a long mile!) im not saying its terrible but its no audi!! the seating is great will hold 7 adults very flexible and each seat is removed folded etc individually which is great! the extras anrt up to what you get with the renault but they are renowned for loads of gadgets but what you get works and works well and being a VW it will last well and depreciate slower!!

and as for the rear end crash as you were rightly worried so was i (cant speak for all of them obviously) but the touran works that if it is hit from the rear the shock is designed to be absorbed by teh sides of the car and the safety rating is the same for all the seats!! but as a parent you never stop worrying lol

hope this helps

Would have to strongly disagree about build quality and bad drive. Also, disagree about 5 adults. Mine regularily takes 7 adults. Not the 400lb versions from America though :whistling:

best thing to do now is take a test drive in each one mentioned, some may surprise you. Let us know what you decide on (we're nosey)

how old are your children?
there are 7 of us youngest are 3 and 1,i find the problem is access to the back seats, personally i dont like the youngest being in the rear seats i prefer them in the middle seats,so that means everytime my other kids get in the car they either have to jump in the boot, other the back seats or undo the child seats.i would like a car that seats 7/8 with access to the rear seats without undoing car seats

at the mo i have a mitsubishi delica very big and heavy on diesel
