i have an acer laptop around 2 years old,i was watching a clip on youtube when the phone went,i closed the lid on the laptop to answer..anyway i come back to laptop open the lid and its froze,i hold the power button in to turn it off, when i turned it back on it starts as it should, acer screen the blackscreen with microsoft along the bottom..and thats as far as it gets.
i have tried to use safe mode it says loading files scrolls for a bit then does nothing, then after a while i get a blue screen saying cant load..a file cant remember the name, then bad boot sector.
i made the back up discs when i bought it and have used them before so know they work,i put the first disc in it says loading files with progress bar along the bottom, when this is done i get a black screen then nothing,i have left it for a couple of hours and it just hangs there......makes me think could be hard drive, but like i said i know very little about computers so any help would be great.

LOL Acer - I stupidly bought 2 identical Acer laptops a few years ago and BOTH the hard drives and motherboards failed.

Probably a bit late to suggest this as you have already started to restore from you backup discs, but when I last had a problem like this with our old Acer laptop, I did the ultimate 'switch it of and on again'. Once the laptop was off, I removed the battery and left it for a few minutes. Refitted the battery and switched back on and everything was back to normal.
Not sure why this worked better than a normal restart, but various forums claim that this is the only way to discharge everything on the motherboard. Not sure about this but at least it worked - so it might be worth doing the same.

There are a few resets you can do with laptops, but apart from that it's either hardware, software or something is loose, and Laptops are a pain in the ass to fix.

Theres nothing wrong with your laptops hardware, the OS boot has been corrupted. There is a fix but its quite long winded. What i have done in the past is removed my hard drive, inserted it into a caddy, backed up, placed it back into the computer and factory restored/formatted it. I know it sounds quite long but i found it better then the alternative of trying to 'fix' it by doing hours of research and trial and error.

Good answer. I have to do a hard reset with my PC when it fails to boot due to a windows 7 crash. Fixes it every time.

There are plenty of people on here who think they are computer experts.
