Is there any difference between non-bi-wire & bi-wire speaker cables???

Hey guys!!!

Just wanted to know if any of you fellow HUKD'ers know the difference between non-bi-wire & bi-wire speaker cables???

I have a pair of Celestion F10 bookshelf (bi-wire-able) speakers and I am thinking of bi-wiring them and putting them up in the living room at the top corners.

All your advice will be much appreciated, thanks!!!

The main advantage in choosing bi-wire speaker cables is that all four cables are together and generally take less room and look better than running two lengths of single cable. I generally check whathifi for reviews etc on cables, and can recommend QED silver anniversary XT.

    Ignore the first reply... :(

Bi-wire speakers are designed for bi-amping them. You will have one power amp for the tweeter and one power amp for the bass, you will also need a pre amp and an active cross-over.

A lot of speakers are sold as bi-wire and people are told to take one set of speaker cables to the tweeter connection and one set to the bass connection from the same amp.

This will make NO difference to the sound and anyone who says it will is trying to rip you off.

What if the AMP is designed to power both?

Unfortunately the are just paralleled together, the left and right amplifier channels are going to the high and low outputs.

    Sorry. :(

It does power both however as most home speakers have passive crossover built into them, bi-wiring is just a manufacturers trick to sell you twice the amount of speaker cable...
