i suffer from a condition called reflex sympathetic dystrophy in my right arm. it's a condition whereby the nerves in my elbow send false pain signals to my brain. mine started after i broke the top of the ulna and it damaged the nerves. basically although the actual damage was done nearly 13 years ago my nerves still tell my brain that the arm is broken.

in my case they tried various therapies before diagnosing the condition. i had TENS to try and fool the nerves, i had physio, ultrasound, heat treatment and finally once the condition was determined they tried injecting the elbow with local anaesthetic and dosing me up with morphine to try and get the nerves to shut off, needless to say it didn't work

hope you get better

I wouldnt say being daft by worrying, but worrying will achieve nothing positive only bring you stress, you will not change the outcome by worrying about it other than possibly increase any pain as stress will decrease your natural pain tolerance and leave you feeling run down and exhausted.

I worked in medical physics for awhile and was typing notes all day but got what I thought was RSI my right arms was very painful, I eventually had an operation apparently the nerve had to be scraped of blood vessels (the radial nerve), I had physio, then injections and it was over a year that I lost the use of my arm - I now have full use of my right arm, after the operation - but with dead feeling nerve from the thumb up to my elbow inside my arm - although a great nuisance, my hubby keeps reminding me of the pain I WAS in and am not in now so I guess I am glad I had the op - so listen to the docs and take their advice and good luck

I've had one of these nerve tests. If you have the same as me, they send signals down your fingers several times. If your nerves are broken, or "normal", it won't hurt.

What pain are you actually experiencing?

Its something ive had to do as I have fibromyalgia, i've learnt that on a day of higher pain worrying about it and letting it get me down means i suffer worse the following day with pain, then with more pain you worry more meaning the following day is worse than ever and its a viscous circle that goes on and on, I now have somehow managed to alter the natural thought process and think the pain is not going to kill me and not let it worry me the same. It took a long time to alter my thought process but it can be done.

the initial test that i had involved sending electrical signals from the fingertips and then having sensors at the shoulders. its sort of like an electrical resistance test. they put X in and measure Y out. then X-Y=the amount of nerve damage. the test wasn't painful at all.

i had to go and see a specialist to be tested for fibromyalgia but i didnt have the tender points so all my problems and weird unexplained symptoms are all anxiety related so they just sent me for some counciling that didnt help at all :-(
