Any good hagglers out there?

Lets seeee, i've finished my orange contract back in september - im currently on it as a ongoing contract (its the canary 30 which they dont offer anymore)

Basically im currently getting it for £27ish, and i want to stick with the same contract but I just want a Blackberry 9700 but everytime they offer me something - They expect me to pay another £150 for the handset?!

My cousin just had his upgraded to a excellent offer, he was offered it for free and a fair bit of miinutes but he's still got 30 days left of his current contract - is it just me or could it just be because i'm out of contract they just seem to not bother?

Any good haggling tips for me to get this phone for free?
I seriously want to get that phone!

Thanks

Threaten to leave.

Ask to be put through to the 'retentions' department, state your case and tell them you'll go to o2/voda etc if they don't give you what you want.

I did that, they didn't even budge!
They just carried on telling me it'll be a £150 for the handset!

Argh, they're annoying me!

My cousin had 1500 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited internet and free blackberry 9700 and insurance for 18 months for £30! Which is pretty good - even your £5 deal!

I wonder if its to do with the time i ring them?

Anyone have better chances in the morning?

They can only lower the price to a point. It's all based on your monthly spend. They work it out for last 6,12, 18, or 24 months, and simply put the figures in a retentions calculator which spits out what you can have.

If the calculator say £150, then that's their bottom offer.

What calculator?

What i don't get is, I rang the upgrade line told them i wanted a 9700 he offered me it for £150 and then he goes it would be better to go to the retention line and say you wanted to leave to get a better offer, so after doing that they give me the same offer again?

Surely there must be something...

direct them to this page and say that as an existing customer you would hope that you would be getting a better deal than new customers that can get this phone for free and get cashback too

Thanks corinne, I have mentioned a website to them - But to be honest all i want is my same contract just a new phone.

I've had a look around on a few websites, it seems that some people just keep ringing until they get a deal as it changes on a day to day basis..

Thanks for the help anyways.

i understand you dont want to change your contract but if you say that at e2save i can get this deal then they should at least match it. it might be the length of the contract thats causing the problem because i think most providers want to stick you with a 2 yr contract nowadays
corinne
if you have a new contract you can keep your same number just ask them for your pac code. you then have 30 days from then to get a contract sorted or your existing contract will just carry on as you are so you dont lose anything

I've been carrying it on from september, i really do want a new phone!
I'll just keep trying .. & I'll keep you peeps posted!

Definitely try again today, you may get a new person on the line willing to help you. Tell them you want to stick to them because you've enjoyed their service but if they don't budge on the price then you'll leave. (Btw, if they aren't moving on their price it may be worth just getting up and going). Are you sure you've definitely been put through to retentions/cancellations? Sounds suspiciously like sales to me.
#14
They also work it out on how many people ring you so if you aren't as popular as other people it could have an effect.

I've rang again and they gave me the same thing again.
I might upgrade to another blackberry 8520, sell that and my current htc hero..which should let me pick one off fleabay!

I just need to make them include the blackberry bundle in my package otherwise im paying £35..

I rang o2 retentions and quoted the current Vodaphone and Virgin sim only offers and asked them to beat it, and that's exactly what they told me to do.
#17
Look for another offer similar to what you want from vodafone/o2/t-mobile etc. Next time phone up and ask what's available, if they tell you the same again sya that you've seen a similar offer from another provider and tell them you want to cancel your contract. If they put you through to retentions tell them the same, unless they can improve their offer. Good luck!!

It's an internal program.

Retentions have more power than Upgrades (who have their own calculator) so if you can't get your upgrade through the 'Upgrades Team', go to Retentions/Disconnections. However if Retentions won't give it to you, no one will :-(

think it depends sometimes the company won't budge i had this with 02 a few years back and just left and went to orange
then two years i really wanted to go back to pay as you when i called the guy from orange he asked how much would you spend on your pay as you go a month i said £10 was on a £35 contract so he gave me an offer of £9.50 month for the same contract i was on + a new handset couldn't say no

gonna try get the contract lowered again when i'm due for an upgrade in a few months :-D

I got through to them finally!

Asked what was available but the handset would cost me £100

Instead i stuck to my canary 30 (unlimited orange-orange calls), got 10% discount and free blackberry internet/email package with a blackberry 8520 for free.

£28.50 a month.. Ah well better than what i got now!

Lets see what this blackberry has to offer if it's terrible - i'll sell my hero as well and get a bold!

Thanks for the help people =D
Much appreciated.
