im doing a packaging design brief, (a starpack one) and im not sure what they mean exactly in the wording. it says i have to make 2 types of secondary packaging for a made up drink (fizzy in a can) using corrugated card, they want to launch it in 2 distinct market areas, and we need to show how we have taken the brand into two markets of our choice.
Now what i dont get is the bit about markets,do they mean aiming it at different types of people, or do they mean two different types of sellers, like a supermarket and a cafe, where the cafe would only sell singles and the supermarket would sell them in packs?
iv made a carrier for them for when people buy packs, what else would i make? it says you can do pos, which to me is either big stands, or the little trays, but that would make everything i make only suitable really for supermarket selling. im at a loss
thankyou for help in advance

markets would be the type of people you would aim the drink at e.g. you might have the normal fizzy version and a diet version. You would then have 2 different market potential.

the market is always the final purchaser, the customer, not the store or cafe/supermarket

its about cultural markets, would you sell it the same in india vs london?
what parts of the brand is most useful to separate markets?
maybe some markets are entirely price led, or health led
diet vs sugar
organic vs regular

Wow - don't spend too much time on the design, having seen the brand name it will sell itself to the teen market.

are you saying to sell it as some kind of stimulant or cheap substitute for drugs and will make you famous?

Well I think the product is set. The assignment is for external packaging to enhance the product to different markets ie impulse buy (dispenser), volume sales (supermarket value pack) etc.

the actual drink type is set, its a fizzy drinks range in a can called SKolapop
its the packaging that we use thats to sell it to the different markets, not what it contains

yes thanku, very constructive and helpful, iv had a million other things to do and projects, essays etc, this got pushed aside till i had the time!

anyway, im still not sure how i can aim this at two different markets with the packaging alone, its got to have the same product in both, same/similar graphics etc by the sounds of it, just different construction, type of secondary packaging

how about a 2 , 3or 4 pack design for picnic types and a 6-8 pack for bulk value buyers?

Was just posting the same. Packaging to cater for the seller. Supermarket - bulk and cafes - 2-4 can pack
