only that with Ryanair, familys with children/ disabled + elderly board plane before the masses - you will be able to all sit together :D

Its a decent airport, anything you specifically want to know about John Lennon airport? its my local so I know it well enough.

Don't buy the fast track ticket to get through security, just as many people are in that queque as in the regular one (unless you get there first of course).

Lots of stairs from check in to the gates so allow time if you have buggies etc to organise.
Good photo opportunity at top of stairs with bronze statue of John Lennon - keep your phone/camera ready.

the mersey retail estate isnt far with the usual pizza hut and macdonalds or if you are driving you can head into town there are a few child friendly pubs on the water front and a £3.59 carvery pub

As for the Ryanair bit, make sure your hand luggage is with in the dimensions stated 55cm x 40cm x 20cm as they can be very strict, and can cost you a small fortune. Also you are only allowed 1 piece of hand luggage per fare paying person, so if the kids are fare paying they can have a bag also. If you purchase anything at the airport that also has to fit in the hand luggage, also handbags must be in hand luggage or your handbag will be classed as hand luggage. Have a good one but play by their rules and your be fine.

There's a weatherspoons inside airport too., slightly elevated prices, but still great for eating before flight + they have a subway branch too now :D

Just before the airport ( 5 mins drive, or reasonable stroll) small outlet village - mcdonalds ( you didnt mention how young children are but any kid over 1 seems to love eating in McD's)
