I need to get a replacement so that my central locking works remotely. I am sure it would cost a fortune if I went through Vauxhall so is there anywhere else I could get one please?

if you mean a new key fob, its an expensice job! i recently got one for my car, and alkl i have is a bog standard t reg rover, it cost me £160 for a new fob :( its a bigger job that you think cos they have to put a new imobiliser in to be able to make a new fob, they cant make a new fob from ur existing imobiliser (or at lease this is what i was told at the garage)

If you could tell us the model, year of make, what's wrong with the old key and possibly upload a picture of the old key then maybe you/we can source a new one and possibly how to program it.
I needed a new key as the rubber had almost worn away and it was less than a tenner if memory serves me correctly. I changed over the alarm gubbings and although the new key does the central locking it doesn't start the car but the old one does. I know I have to have 2 keys but it's alot cheaper than going through BMW.

Vauxhall astra 53 plate. the key comes apart but does start the ignition and locks the doors. Am I right that the immobilser wont be working with the key being like this. I have only just the car so not sure much about this. I am used to driving older cars.

If its a new key fob then the actual key fob isnt not really expensive on fleabay you can pick them up for a couple of quid through to £20. The most difficult part is the programming part. They cost in excess of £70. Main dealers usually do this but there are a few other specialist companies who can undertake such a task.

had a similar problem with a friends car. The key broke clean off the fob. The spare key has no fob only a key. When we tried to start the car it wouldnt start. We ended up holding the fob with the key to start the engine. it was fine as soon as it srtarted but needed the fob containing the chip.

Looks liek you will need a new keyfob and reprogramming. Best bet is to get teh key for fleabay and then have it programmed at main dealer or the likes.

So if the key is just the problem then you may get away with just buying a replacement off ebay and just swapping over the gubbings.
I suggest you start with this then go from there because your gonna need a new key whatever happens.
