My friend's washer/dryer machine has gone caput. She has an engineer coming to look at it who said on telephone "oh that sounds serious" and that is before he has even seen it! So I was hoping someone might have an idea what could be wrong so she does n't get totally done when he comes to diagnose the problem.

The machine was shakng violently and making a screeching noise for about a week and she continued to use it (stupid!) The last time she used it when she switched it on it went bang and has n't come on since, The engineer said it sounds like a circuit board which is an expensive repair. Anyone got any thoughts on this as I have no idea about things like this. Thanks. Fairy.

If going be expensive, consider buying a new 1 over repair.

Make sure she don't get fobbed off, seen that programme rogue traders, put's me off if I want anything done and was my own house.

id consider a new one, sometimes cheaper to replace than repair, it may well break again

what is a pcb?

I get the jist of what you are saying but can you explain a bit more simply as to what has happened.

Does the fact she carried on using it add to the problem? She rents and I am concerned that she will be liable if she should have stopped using it as soon as it started getting noisy.

Then if she rents and the washing machine was part of inventory and the home was rented out as furnished, this may considered in the price of rent then it's upto person she rents from to fix it or replace if,possibly at their discretion. She don't need to say its been noisy for a while and she continued to use it,it's jist occured last time used thats all need to be said.

Has she lost any socks lately? Surprisingly they can get behind the drum sometimes, I had a washer that stopped working because somehow a sock got in the pump. Washers have balancing programmes stored in their computer which is basically that control the speed of the drum, It detects when the drum wobbles and then slows and speeds up the washer to help it spin quietly, Washers are generally lighter these day's because of the technology, Not as much concrete is needed as the washer balances itself automatically, Of coarse anything that relies on a brain is problematic, Could well be that the brain is fried and no longer auto-balancing running so fast any wobble is no longer reduced. Could be a blown fuse and bearings gone?

she "could" have put the washer on, gone out and come home to a finished load and not known it was playing up until KAPUT!!....:whistling:
