Anywhere in the UK, I am looking for somewhere similar to where Gail Tillesly and Joe went (a cottage by a lake), although I dont want to end up swimming with the fishes.....any ideas?

Yeah come up to Edinburgh - though it's not peaceful like Gail and Joe had - bit more lively up here! What kind of break do you want - lazy chill out time or things to do and see? Can do a bit of both I would imagine up here.

Edit - answered above - so no point LOL!

or EVEN.... Hoseasons..... Take a look at the lodges or cottages on their site.. http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/lodges/ Make sure you "trip advisor" the holiday park first though... - some of the cottages look ok... some look "used"

Not so easy to find a cottage by a lake. This is the only one I could come up with!!

Portmeirion is amazing:

It is in North Wales, has a hotel and self catering cottages, and if you are a fan of The Prisoner even better!
The food in the hotel is lovely, beds really comfy, and I would certainly go back there.

Details here: http://www.portmeirion-village.com/content.php?nID=23;lID=1

(It's not a lake, but it is water...)

What about Forest Holiday cabins?

http://www.forestholidays.co.uk/cabins/our_locations.aspx

We usually go to the Stathyre site in Scotland which is right next to Loch Lubnaig and has Ben Ledi behind it, beautiful but a bit of a cabby from where you are. They have a site in cornwall, not by a lake but an old mill pond!
