ok some of you know im sueing the builder who built my house but ive a new problem now..lol
Ok monday had the council out to bait cos we had something going in and out of the cavity wall between us and next door, the council guy confirmed it was a rat ( or more then one) getting in via next doors water/sewage drain cos he found rat droppings, so he baited the main drain and a smaller on in the road and will be back in a week, thought ok rat be dead in a few days. guy next door isnt interested even though its in his walls, behind his cupboards and under his stairs, but its driving me nuts and i dont want it getting into the house or biting my power cables behind the power point where it seems to like scratching. So any ideas guys???
rep for any ideas im getting to the point i dont want to open the doors unless i have something heavy and big in my hand..lol cant bait anywhere outside the drain as i have a little boy and there are a million cats that just LOVE my garden

Going by this site the guys says first you have to find out how they are getting in and plug it, then destroy the ones already in by baiting snap traps and then remove any lairs and dead to prevent re infestation.

what about that sonar thing JML plugged on the telly last year, does anyone know if these things are effective

Cool, a ferret Vs Rat War, I'd watch that.

Natural Rat Killers

The domestic cat is a great mouser, but can it really be expected to catch a rat? Well, they can and do catch rats. The problem is they just can't keep up with the rat's progressive breeding ability. They are nice to have around, though, and may act as some deterrent to rat populations. Just like lions, female cats are better killers than male cats.

The domestic dog also has some ability it in the rat-slaying department. Not all dogs are killers, but they also act as a deterrent to rat families. But, in the end, they may do little more than encourage the rats to hide better.

The ferret is an extremely aggressive killer and a popular pet. I actually saw a video on You Tube of a ferret killing a rat; it was awful. If you can train your ferret to kill rats and return home to its cage to pee, I would be impressed. But I don't think the ferret solution to rats is a realistic one.

Best thing is liquid hand soap, pour some in a dish somewhere out of way where they are.
Not failed yet - It flushes them out and there gone, Downside they cr&p loads within feet of it but there gone.

If possible use and a bucket and coat side with soap so they can't get back out.

You really DO NOT want to poisen them, when they are poisened they go and find a nice warm safe place to die (Your cavity wall) and then when they pass away they will decompose giving out THE MOST GODAWFUL STENCH which will taint your entire house. Your only option, unless you have a cold for upto 6 weeks) is then to break open the wall to remove said rotting rodent. :o
