Just found this - sorry if it has already been posted. This situation seems to be spiralling out of control http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20080527/tuk-pub-manager-stabbed-in-street-robber-45dbed5.html

Totally agree

WTF do you need to carry a knife for?

Depends, they could be chefs, butchers, knife salesmen, etc etc

Totally agree

and serious consequences for their actions, WTF do you need to carry a knife for?

A knife is a tool not a weapon in my opinion, I often carry one (a multi tool one mainly) but I also carry a wrapped razor blade in my wallet as an emergency first aid tool in case of Bee stings (a phoibia I have)! Many times its come in useful. The police and politicians who spout the diatribe about if you carry a knife it will be used against someone or yourself is utter rubbish! I would never dream of using a knife as a weapon, thats what the gun is for! seriously though its these idiots who ruin it for the rest of us!

LOL if I could quote the op and call him a tool I would

The situation is the same as it ever was , probs getting even better as suggested its just that now the media is picking up on it, nice going being ignorant enough to only concern yourself with stuff like this after sky news decides to cover it

What can be done? Tougher punishments for these who carry for starters, atm the penalty isn't that high its worth the risk and never a better time to carry a knife!

Showing my age....bought my nephew 14 a swiss army knife (£45). All my brothers got them at 13, right of passage and they still have them 30 years later.. Sister in law was horrified that I would buy a knife as a present. She said he could not have it (OK he is no boy scout but neither is he out on the streets). How sad, sign of the times I suppose. Just did not occur to me.

Knife crime involving youths is on the increase though, and thats what a lot of reports are highlighting.

Haven't they just increased the prison sentence to 4 years for carrying a knife? That's 12 months in reality and less 9 with a tag they'll spend 3 months in a holiday camp.

Knife wielders are nothing compared to those little gits walking about with thermal lances!

Stop the benefits and they lose the funding for knives.
