A couple of questions for any electric wheelchair users or maybe even mobility specialist / technicians
My mother has had a severe stroke which means she must go into a nursing home.
She would greatly benefit from and electric wheelchair but does not qualify for any NHS support. They say she can do with a manual one.
She does not have the money (£2000 upwards) to buy new because she will have to fund the nursing home in the short term from capital whilst her house is sold and pay lots of other costs.
So I got her a second hand one locally but it has subsequently developed a fault with what I suspect to be the remote controller / joystick panel.
Now I have gone down the following routes for tech support (I am a mechanical engineer)
Manufacturer (Invacare) for tech help They do not deal with the public. Awaiting a response about their local dealer.
Manufacturer of the control system (Dynamic) they do not deal ith the public.
Tried some local mobility dealers they do not do repairs but will sell me a new one!
So my question is what do you do if you have a fault with an electric wheelchair? İs there a source of reconditioned / second hand spares?
In fact I cannot even find UK based Internet forums / newsgroups that focus on such subjects!
So is this really such a closed market that the only real choice is to pay over the top new prices, or is there some secret route into this market?
I have never come across a situation where I cannot get support / help locally and/or over the Internet, but everyone I have spoken to either will not help or cannot help.
Any ideas / suggestions / advice greatfully received
