Any mechanics about? Vauxhall Corsa question

Thinking about buying a Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 2000 model. Great wee car but the backlight on the odometer/mileage reading has gone. Can barely make it out but the seller assures me that it is 54k on the clock.

First question how easy are these backlight to change?

Secondly - Why would it go - tampered with?

Third - do all MOT certificates show mileages that you can verify?

Thanks in advance.

The cluster bulbs can be a pain to change, it involves removing trim around the area and sometimes the Steering wheel, the bulb is located right at the back so will need to be completly removed I think.

You will usually see atleast 1 go after about 6 years so it's probably nothing to worry about.

Check the service history, the MOT certificate does have the last reading when it went in for its MOT so check that too and check previous MOT papers, remember break down companies offer vehicle checks before you part with the cash (worth it if you are unsure)

Good luck with your purchase!

Thats the corsa D models.

This is a corsa C model, no problems here, very good cars!

you can check mot certificates online, goto the mot website.

You will need the reg number and the reg document number.

Ask the dealer / person for this, saying that your insurance company have asked for it or something. To keep him sweet, or if u dont care lol, just say you want it to check it out lol!

Yeah the life expectancy is quite long on average, but its quite common for one to go :)
