Any Mechanics in the House? - Corsa Gear Problem

Hey up.

On the way back from Leeds today, my gear selector seemed to disconnect from my gearbox.

The gear stick feels like it isn't connected to anything.

Luckily it seemed to break whilst in 4th gear, so I managed to drive him (don't ask how...)

Does anyone know what the problem might be before I ring the garage tomorrow morning.

I'm hoping it's just the link betweek the gear stick and the transmission.

Anyone got any ideas or experiences?

Cheers,

Adam

Model: 2003 / 53 plate Vauxhall Corsa Life 1.2 16v.

Its the gear Linkage Cable. You will need to buy a new one but you can connect it easily when it comes off.

Any idea of cost if I take to a local garage?

The Cable cost like 30 - 40 quid. Most Local Dealers wont have it, you have to go to big mechanics or Vauxhall. Get it fitted privatley if buying from Vauxhall

Not sure about your car, but older Corsas had a plastic bush in a metal u shape housing, they split and pop out.

Since when is a blokes car male? thought they were all female. Hence why i can tell my girlfriend I love my car, and she gets peeved that I love it more than her.

I had this problem - I have an 02 Corsa C.
The gear linkage is made of plastic and has worn away on one of the joints. Apparantley, its a known fault! If your car has been serviced regularly, I'd contact Vauxhall and see if they can fix it....they now have metal gear linkages so should last a fair bit longer!

Unfortunatey, I didn't regularly service mine so had to pay. I think I paid about £150 fitted at a local garage about 3 years ago now.... HTH

THIS may be of use too!
