Any mechanics on here?

Hi all.

Am having a problem with my Citroen Picasso that has just recently developed

If I am in a high gear and I put my foot down, the car seems to rev a lot and make a lot of noise, but doesn't really pick up speed.

Anyone know what could be causing this, please?

Thanks

Even though I am not touching the clutch when this happens?
It is after I finish changing gear and then put my foot down

This is the easy way to explain this.

The clutch works all time.
When you put your foot on the pedal it releases the clutch so you can change gear.

When it is worn, not all the power makes it's way to the wheels.

I'm sorry to say it sounds like your clutch is going

I didn't want to add insult to injury.

First mistake buying a citroen

second was spending more money on them

Yeah, if you notice your rev counter going up when you're accelerating and you're not increasing speed much - it's your clutch.

I was expecting a couple of these quotes after reading the Picasso deal thread :giggle:

I have had this 8 year old car for 6 years and have had hardly anything go wrong on it, whenever something has gone wrong it has been very cheap to repair.

I will be blaming the clutch going so quickly again on the garage, considering it went 7 years without needing it changed before that!

I am looking to upgrade this year - to a newer Picasso LOL! And only cos I can't really be paying out for the C4 version!

"and have had hardly anything go wrong on it"

Exept the clutch two years running

And I very much doubt the garage are liable now

The garage who fitted the clutch should've guaranteed it for at least 2 years or a fair few miles. Do you still have the paperwork? Do not be fobbed off by them either.

This'll come in handy for future problems that you'll definately have ....:-D

They should be okay, they are our usual garage :)

Umm... thanks? :p

Seriously though, we have had a few cars between us and this has been one of, if not the best, taking into account how long we have had it, the miles we've done (its done a straight 2days, 1600 mile (each way) journey to Morocco and back twice, no problems) it has been fine. Paid £6000 for it in 2003 and can still pull at least a grand back out of it so £5k depreciation in 6 years :)

Now, my Fiat Punto that I bought new in 2000 and sold to my MIL has been NO END OF PROBLEMS!!! It's due back out of the garage after 6 months off road because the tiptronic gearbox went and I am actually dreading what it will be next - it even had to have a new engine a few years back! :w00t:

I am talking 'hardly' - as in I have had the car for 6 years now and nothing major at all has gone wrong with it.

I am no car expert (obviously!) and I have heard many bad opinions about French cars - am just talking from my own personal experience at the end of the day.

My very first car was a Peugeot 206 which I loved to pieces and that was also perfect until my OH crashed it at 50mph - it was never the same after it was fixed

Most likely when they did the clutch they only changed the plate. Who did it? Mr Clutch?

I am not sure what they changed myself, OH would know but he's at work now. It was a private garage we have been using for years, OH knows him from years ago - long before we were old enough to drive.

Will get OH to give him a call on Tuesday
