I also ate lunch here too - http://www.amber-restaurant.co.uk/ at the back of the whisky tour right near the castle entrance. This was also very nice, worth checking out if you're doing a tour of the castle.

Mussel Inn was very nice though, reasonably cheap too. Surroundings are very unpretentious.

I rather fancy the amber restaurant, (not a seafood person.) Must remember that when I'm next up in Edinburgh. Thanks for that master chief. :)

The Witchery at the Castle is excellent, and the set menu is very reasonable, about £35 per person I think. It's amazing in there, have a look at the website.

Tonys Table - they have set menu's which change each day, it's 2 courses for £18, or 3 courses for £20, but beleive me it is amazing. Also Zucca which is next to the lyceum theatre does a set menu, I think it's 3 courses for £18, I think this might only be pre-theatre menu though, but you get good portions and is really good value for money.
Also there is a restaurant called Massimo, it is brilliant, it's a little out of Edinburgh centre, but is easily walkable from town (Waverly) down Leith Walk.

Might be worth checking out toptable.com - check more review, earn points etc.

Hope you enjoy Edinburgh, I first visited 4 months ago, and I love it so much I moved here last month.

According to UTV (ITV in Northern Ireland) its the best. http://www.virtualvisit-northernireland.com/news-specific.aspx?dataid=62469

I wasn't asking for michelen star quality. Something nice doesnt always mean expensive. Tbh I dont know why you are trolling in my thread? I was looking for people to suggest a nice restaurant. But to be fair it HUKD misc so it wouldn't be a thread without a smart **** comment in it. Cheers though

When we went a couple of years ago we went to the scotsman hotel, its 5* and the food was great, and to my knowledge it wasn't that expensive - 3 course was about 22.50 i think :)

If you open a McDonalds in Edinburgh, does it make it a McMcDonalds ? :whistling::whistling:

If you like Chinese this got to the semi-final with Gordon Ramsey's best restaurant competition http://www.chop-chop.co.uk/

I ate here a couple of weeks ago, the set menu was £25 a head I think (valentine's wkd) so it's prob slightly cheaper now

http://www.apexhotels.co.uk/hotels/edinburgh-city/eat-and-drink/

The food and the service were both great.

Altenratively, look at toptable.com, all of the restaurants in there have been rated...
