I do the odd night shift, but really have no problem sleeping during the day. Infact, I can sleep for as long as my body needs to, which I do a couple of times a week. I feel is needs it every now and again. ;-)

Make sure your mobile and home phones are off.

Get black out blinds.

Wait a couple of hours after work till you try to sleep.

Sometimes a few morning beers (as strange as that sounds) helps :)

But it's after your 'days' work.

You need to reajust your thinking for Night shifts to work.

The only payment that I require is the joy on all your faces when you find that bargain that has been posted on HUKD. Priceless

I do 11.30-7.30 and I find it difficult to sleep when i get back. I normally stay up till about 11am have a 2 hour nap then try to get 5/6 hours before i go back out again. I only do 3 nights a week though so its not too bad... even if I am awake into the night on my nights off lol. I find it helps to eat something and have a warm drink when you get home... and thick curtains!

Usually get home at 2-ish but rarely go to bed before 5.Sleep like a log then til 11-12.
Would find it very hard now to get back in to a 9-5 routine,I like my late nights and free afternoons.

I'm a shift worker and on nights this week 23:00 to 07:30. I'm on a confusing rotating shift pattern. Back onto earlys next week.

Been doing the job for over six years. Sleeping in the day is a lot easier since I moved closer to work. The long drive home used to stress me out.

Been doing night shift for 4 years now, I mostly experience trouble during the day during the summer. It's a lot easier with heavy curtains, but it also helps if it is quiet. Summer there's almost always yardwork going on or kids playing or something.
I'm a night owl anyhow, so it suits me fine.

Blackout blinds from argos help darken the room. But certainly in the winter months try changing your sleep to before you go to work rather than after. So sleep from say 3pm until 10pm ish. You then get the whole day to go to the shops and stuff and most of your sleep is in darkness.

I've done nights for 15 years. I find it suits me. I never goto bed before 9am usually wake up between 2pm and 4pm. It's not good for meeting people but it does allow you to do what you want during the day. I used to get up and goto the gym for 11 and then go back for a sleep in the afternoon, it's ok once you get into the routine, but best thing is never waking to an alarm unless you've got something to do

Used to be in IT and did days and nights, 8 - 8.
Didnt find it a problem GETTING to sleep as i was always so knackered but found a problem STAYING asleep as always used to wake up.
The summer was the worst.
The bright sunshine shining through and the noise from outside, kids playing, traffic etc etc.
Don't miss it at all really.

My husband does 3 weeks days then 1 week nights working from 6pm to 5.30am.

He has tried different variations of sleep sometimes mornings straight after work other times waiting a while but he never seems to sleep for more than 4 hours, although he does wake up naturally not though noise so seems to be adequate.

Maybe if he did longer spells of nights he might sleep more.

Ive been doing nights for 2 years.
Never had a problem sleeping in the day at all.
Can sleep 8-9 hours easily i have to set an alarm otherwise i would keep sleeping lol.
Never have a problem sleeping onmy nights off etc.

I usually do 7pm - 7am but doing dayshift at the moment. Much prefer nights :)

Used to work nights a few years back, and always had a few beers in the morning. Sometimes had a curry as well. Mrs thought it was strange with her toast and coffee and me with madras and beer.

I do nights once or twice a week, the rest of the time, days....

I have a permanent headache!

been doing nights for almost 11 years now, from 10pm till 6.30am. I actually sleep better during the daytime now than i do at night when im not working.

1 thing i find helps me sleep is turning a fan on, not sure why, its just a constant sound i guess so you get used to it, and it drowns out all the other noises.

I work a lot of nights and I'm only 19. Working 7pm to 3am currently. normally work 7pm to 7am, killer shifts they are!
#32
I've got heavy curtains and use ear plugs which seems to work fine (Except for the constant flow of delivery drivers as my wife is doing the Christmas shopping) A old work mate of mine used to swear by a Baileys mixed with night nurse! Tried it once and slept for 9 hours straight and had a bad head all night, never agan.

Never worked a nightshift im afraid - Worked till 2am then went back in for the open at 5am (Work at Mcdonalds)

Im 17 and Yes I know its highly illegal - They dont care, neither do I..... So shh.

Working nights wasnt for me, it used to mess with my head.
At that point the company I worked for was very short staffed, so we did 10 nights on and 7 off, after a week of nights, I would barely know my own name, and readjusting to days in my week off was a PITA.
