i bought £7000 of BB shares today 36,781 at 18.75p at 4pm on a whim, bought them out of the £9000 i made the other week on the HBOS fiasco in just 1 day, BB closed 30 minutes later at 20p, £300+ up in a hour, im hopeing for good news in usa over weekend, hope they agree the 700 billion rescue package they should do, just got to hope a bank snaps up BB i dont want it to go like northern rock really or be merged with them, so im on tender hooks until monday morning opening, hopeing to make a couple of 1000 just in the morning, but i could loose it all, still not to worry thou as its money i made on HBOS anyway, good times ahead hopefully, but could go tits up.

NOTE: if goverment decides to nationlise BB monday or suspend i could loose all £7000 in a few hours, or even before opening.

Nervous weekend ahead for sure but exciting!

The US $700bn "rescue" package will only help banks with US holdings - it won't help B&B, they don't have the US presence to qualify. Other banks will continue deleveraging meaning B&B is still on the shoals.
#3
IF the US deal goes through then the feeling is that it will ease the fears here in the banking sector as well. which should enable them to start lending to each other and thus things should start to return to normal (even the initial news helped a lot - until the republicans shot it down) so a permanent deal should help.

the problem with B&B won't go completely away though as they've pulled themselves out of the mortgage market and are unlikely to return anytime soon

yeh your both correct, was hopeing for a white night to take over, doubt very much that will happen now, looks like im going to loose all 7k, these will be suspended me thinks before mondays opening, sure to give a few laughs thou im sure, you take the risk you either win or loose, won last time loose this time, still up thou on the month just, either way BB and my fate will be settled before weekend is out, i predict merged with NR.

I know a fair bit about shares, but what happens when it gets nationalised? I don't know that!

Good man, but I feel sorry for you.
#11
thx, shame the goverment let people still buy shares in BB at 4pm friday, would have thought they knew before today what they were planning, but its still down to me in the end, one person bought almost 3 million shares at 4.25pm 5 minutes before close, bet he really gutted.
#12
so remember guys shares can go up as well as down be warned! only buy what you can afford to loose.
#13
Unfortunately the bank will be run into the ground under the government just like Northern Rock - all the 'good' mortgages will be encouraged to find other lenders and only those unable to get a mortgage elsewhere will carry on to completion or forclosure, whichever happens first.
#14
yeh your correct i think.
#15
Are Northern Rock shares now guaranteed if you buy them now, or am I just making that up?
#16
you cant buy nrk shares as the goverment ownz it, there not on the london stock exchange, you the taxpayer already own it in a sort of way, as its your tax that paid for the nrk bailout, just like your pay for the BB bailout.

so you've lost £7,000 and you don't care? would definitely try selling Monday on opening before announcement
#18
They'll be suspended before trading opens, but I imagine he'll try (I would). He just won't be able to sell.

if you read a page back i am gutted, but take it on the chin as i bought these on the proceeds of what i made on the hbos fiasco, but still feel sick that i lost 7k overnight.

correct they will almost certainly be suspended, they dont want another nrk fiasco, i wont even try to sale, there zero value in my eyes now im afraid.

when it gets nationalised the govt basically do a compulsory purchase on the existing shares. its usuall at the current market value or higher (depending on what kind of mess the chancellor is in at the time, and what kind of signal he needs to send) i'd guess he will buy them at a higher price to send a message to the city that the govt will bail them out of this mess
#22
hope your right wolf, but he will do what he done with nrk and give zero for each share, we might get a penny a share in 3 years time or more, and remember nrk shares were like a £1 each when it was nationlised and they still got zero a share, BB 20p and company not worth nothing like nrk was, saying that i think he could do what you say and give something per share to put confidence in the market, otherwise no one will buy shares in any bank.

is that useful to you?
I only skimmed it and only the mortgages and loans are being nationalised and Santander may be buying B&B for 20bn?
#24
im watching all live feeds and BB boards about the situation, so saw that already, thx anyway, but no its no use to me, shares will be worth zero for sure, but the goverment will make a tidy profit out of this situation eventually, shame santander did not do something directly with BB last week.
