What sort of bike do you want??? What are you going to use it for, riding on the road, on tracks, both, up and down mountains, etc etc. Mountain bikes are tough, but heavy, road bikes are lighter but more fragile. Hybrids are a jack of all trades, master of none. I have a time trial bike for triathlons, a road bike for training, a hybrid for cycling around with kids, etc. It would be worth thinking about how you are going to use a bike and buy one suitable for that purpose.

Try and find a good local bike shop (where do you live?), they are more likely to have knowledgeable staff who will sell you a bike suitable for your needs, and will normally let you go for a test ride before hand and service it afterwards.

well for the summer i have decided to put my car in the garrage and bike everywhere so i will mostly use the bike on the road but it would also be nice to take it into the park and the fields and roam around there for a bit. one of my mates has a Rockhopper and says it is a great bike but i think they are very expensive.

A hybrid would probably do the job, i like the claud butler range. I think you can get an urban 100 for about £200.

I can't justify spending hundreds on a bike, I'm quite happy with a standard cheapie, Unless your going to be hurtling down mountains or pulling tricks, They are ok!!
