I had it a couple of years ago....felt like a sore throat to me...with swollen glands at the top of the neck. Although turned out I had glandular fever, tonsillitis and mitoiditus (sp)(infection in the bone behind my ear) at the same time, so kinda hard to seperate the symptoms for you.
Treatment was no kissing for 6weeks lol...and im guessing some tablets but I cant remember. As a result of the G/Fever I was urged to have my tonsils out (at 19) lol.
Sorry....but cant really remember anymore.

ohhh yeah the white bits mentioned above ring a bell....was all over my throat and tonsils..

Also known as the kissing disease. Can make you feel run down for months if you are really unlucky. Need lots of rest and a good diet together with whatever the doctor prescribes.
Hope you are coping and not poorly too long

How old are you? It can be very nasty after puberty, I had it in my semifinal year of uni when I was 22ish and it really knocked me for 6 - a couple of weeks of feeling quite tired and lethargic then I was really ill for a couple more (bed-ridden, bad tonsilitis, infected liver) and the recovery takes quite a long time - it certainly isn't nice!

Its viral (caused by the Epstein-Barr virus) so antibiotics generally won't help, except to prevent/cure bacterial infections that might occur due to weakened immune system - so if it is GF all you can really do is get lots of rest, and drink plenty of fluids - and make sure you ease yourself back into work/study gently!

Most people are exposed to it as kids - usually without even realising as its generally very mild or at worst flu-like symptoms (not sure the exact figures but I seem to recall its well over half of all children will get into before puberty)..

Fingers crossed its just something a bit milder then - definately have the blood test though to find out one way or another. I got mine when I had loads of exams/coursework to do, apparently its very common time of year to get it. Get well soon

no luck mate if it is, I had it when I was 18 and as others have said it really knocks the crap out of you and leads onto other infections problems etc. I ended up in hospital with a tonne of stomach problems, took the best part of a year before I was back to any kind of normal.

The first sign anything was wrong with me was 2 huge lumps on appeared on the side of my neck.

It makes you terrably tired.
Theres nothing doc can give you.
Gargle with salt or asprin.
Also apparently no sports etc,
It can last a long while though, my sons was about 2 months.
No snogging.

Think I had it at about 21/22. Had 2 huge bullets either side of my neck and incredible pain in what I found out was my spleen. These are 2 areas where you have glands to fight infection in your body so these or any other of your infection fighting glands will be enlarged. You have many located in various parts of the body. You can still have the disease even if it does not show in the bloods.
