They need to satisfy the requirements in line with the law so it is up to them what they accept.

For example, Ladbrokes accept Citizencard for ID when gambling whereas other bookmakers dont.

driving licence, passport or any other nationatally card, portman card, validate card,

ANY photo id with dob, picture, "pass" hollagram
#14
Student card most definately isn't accepted.

Valid passport, valid photo-driving license and Portman Group\'Prove It' cards are acceptable forms of ID.

That simply isn't true, it has to be one of the approved types. Foreign (non-EU) driving licenses for example might not be accepted.

They would be perfectly within their rights to turn it down but provided it was a modern EU photo DL it probably would be okay

If they are statisfied with your age/ID then the type is less of a issue

Initally/Offically I would imagine it would be goverment recoginised ID, however it all depends on the cashier serving you and their take on your age and legitamacy (is that spelt correctly?) of your ID as its down to their discreation

Fair point, apologies maddness, had misread and thought you meant any generic hologrammed photo-id.

My friend moved from chile, her passport over there was handwritten! All she did was carefully rub out the DOB and change it. (she had a UK passport too)

This is the email I got back from Tesco Customer Service:

With regards to your enquiry about whether the a French European Driving license is an acceptable form of ID.

Sorry, unfortunately it is not. please find below a list of the acceptable proof of age ID:-

Acceptable Proof of Age ID

- Passport
- Photocard Driving Licence
- Portman Card
- Citizen Card
- Connexions Card
- Validate Card
- Approved local authority/police proof of age card
- Any other cards with the PASS hologram

Just in case any one else might need this information in future.
