Any other chicken owners here?
After losing a couple of our older hens this year we have just taken on two new ladies from freecycle again (had some others from the same guy a couple of years ago when he was downsizing, this time he was getting rid altogether for health reasons)
I have forgotten what breeds he said they are though doh! so any help identifying would be handy!

WTF!
The only advice I can give to you during the heat is, if you see one sitting down for a long time walk up to it and encourage it to move.
In the heat chickens often sit all day and die in the evening through heatstroke. They sort of cook from underneath and thats why its so important to make them move around on hot days.

lol we have had chooks for several years, their run has plenty of sheltered area I have built for them and some nice dust baths. Another mistake people often make is giving them corn as a treat in the summer as the digestion system turns it into a form of central heating causing them to overheat.
They should start laying as soon as they settle with the other ladies (3 brown hybrids and a lavender aracauna) as they was already laying at their previous home.
Even if iggy doesn’t lay many eggs they are more of a pet anyway so eggs are just a bonus - the same with the Aracauna she doesn’t lay many over the year and none at all in winter.
Actual LOL, nearly wet myself at work.
WTF!
