Are there any precautions I can take as I have sold my brand new sealed Ipad on ebay so I do not get scammed?
Hi. I am just about to sell the Ipad I got me for xmas. It is brand new and sealed. Is there anything I can do (serial number? etc) to make sure I do not get scammed when sell it? I know there is some kind of procedure (though unsure what) when selling mobile phones so just wondered what I should do when selling an Ipad. Many thanks.

im not sure about that but ive heard/read lots of times that people say they havent recieved the item, or its damaged inside (obviously you wouldnt know this because its sealed), even if its not damaged, (again you would have no proof as you havent opened it).
you should tell the buyer you are opening it to take photos before sending it, esp of the bit you put the charger into as i believe this bit can turn pink if water damaged, (another thing scammers will say), like i say, im not certain, but i think this is what people may be getting at, good luck xxx
We read in the paper (evening standard I think) that it is expected to be out some time mid 2012 so I have decided to wait for it.

I had someone try and scam me with a tv, tried to send me his smashed one back, took alot of time and effort on my part, but i won in the end but alot of stress and me getting very angry about it all.
Paypal refunded him and so i had to jump through hoops defending my claim and proving it. paypal never made it easy for me
Had same sort of hassle with a laptop guy said he was going to send it back as he paid too much and the keyboard was funny, yeah right ... guy put a claim in and i had to give him some money back rather then go through the hassle of it all, so i quite hate ebay for selling now, although its great for buying as everything is in the buyers favour.
I never got negative feedback from these people so if it was that bad why not give me a negative, probably cause they were too ashamed too

1. Buyer receives item and payment bounces after you've already posted it. You are left with money and no iPad. Good luck chasing Paypal to resolve the issue, could take months and even then no guarantee of seeing your money back.
2. Dishonest buyer receives item and claims it is faulty. Buyer sends you back (perhaps their own) badly scratched iPad so you are left out of pocket as you will have no money and a worthless ipad as buyer keeps your new one and gets a refund to boot as Paypal will automatically refund them from your account once they send proof they've sent the item back.
3. Months after the transaction the buyer can claim fraudulent transaction/requests a direct chargeback through their credit card company. See #1.
If you are intent on selling it on eBay, cash on collection only and that way the buyer can see the item as well before parting ways.
Remember that if it's too good to be true, it usually is. If an iPad retails for £400 and yours sells for £390, be suspicious as no-one in their right mind would be willing to buy such an expensive item from a stranger and for the extra couple of quid knowing they could go into Apple and also get a receipt in case anything goes wrong.
