PM me the details. Have you already got the content you want? (ie text and images)

If you have and its not masses of pages to sort through, should take an hour or so to be up and running.

PS - have a look here to see if any of the designs and gizmos takes your fancy.

Good afternoon Guv

Hows you this nice sunny day -- just watching F1 and browsing on here.. Are you doing this site for taz for nowt? I've just gotten rid of a site on my server, so have space to host another one, should you be running low :)

PM replied. You need to explain a little more detail. The link is confusing. Was that your site? Was you wanting to replicate the content / design? Is that the host?

Confused!!!!

MS live sucks!

You'd be better off starting from scratch and doing the job properly. (Just capture the content and create pages in html with a proper menu system.)

Do you have the site you can zip over - or is it just online only? Not a problem if it is I would think - I'd just copy the site as it is and take it from there.

Eeek. I'd forgotten about your one!

The last I remembered youd sent over a header image that was too short on width. Did you manage to sort another? (Or amend it?)

no, but if someone says "i like that design" then, if i can use it i will... I know own-made designs are YOUR OWN so to speak, but why make work for yourself, if theres no need to. I hope, in time that I can produce a professional looking website, but atm, im just learning thus any costs I charge reflect my experience (ie: only my time and effort).

Angel, did another HUKD'er (pcnutta) get in touch with regards to website she wanted. Shes they one that you said you would do free, but then she was like 4th on ya list. I spoke to her last week, but have had no response since?

so, Ben (i take it), or in fact anyone?

How long did it take you to read and learn, and (im guessing) learning into practical?

CCS and HTML are subjects Im guessing I'd need to learn to progress further. I mean, you can sit in front ya PC, download CCS templates after templates, and amend, add and delete content til it suits, but knowing CSS will be more useful to you, am i correct

any "real" webdesigner will make their own pages so learning html & css is great ......... i have taught myself html, css, javascript, php and a few others including ajax.

sorry not being mean disco but your not a web designer...... you just change the content ...... i don't see why people pay someone to rip off anothers code

but they thats their money

just a tip for guv and disco...... people are wanting web 2.0 pages now (with lots of little tools etc like diggs, forums etc)
you will need to learn php & ajax, also asp will help...... basically just using html & css limits what you can do

php coders can earn 4 x html coders

she PM'd all the info and what it was bout.. I can fwd you the PM if you want, see what you think. You can have it if ya want, but a need a cpl projects to start off my portfolio? With this one included, I would have 4, looking for about half a dozen to 10

I understand Disco's point though. You have to start somewhere. I spent a while ripping off code and then had to learn to edit it because it either didn't work or I wanted it slightly different. With time you will learn it, even when your ripping it off. I never charged to make a website though, never thought (still don't) that I am good enough to charge for any of my work hehe

like i say, you need to start somewhere, and yes, its hard work web designing, but using your own, or someone else template, you still need to add content etc, and host the site? What i charge for is my time like i say, but from the 4 I'm doing/have done, there is only 1 paid for one, at a low cost to what a proper design company would charge.

Can we see a couple sites of yours then?

Now, i hope we arent gonna get into an argument over this. Whilst I admit to using OP templates (i still credit these people) i do edit the code, to reflect what Im doing. With help from Angel, Guv, and others, I will create a site to standard by using CSS and HTML.

Im guessing, but please correct me, you have make a new CSS, and this is the base of the whole site. By creating a CSS you can set fonts, colours, themes, layouts, formats etc?

why host it for them :? i just create them an account on a free web host so they have full control over it ....... :|
i have only done 2 paid websites...... i would learn html & css before you carry on charging people .....

people will let you "create" them pages for free but do you tell them your just copying a page ??
#36
I have a tendency to use a base design and then rip it apart imagewise so it looks cool.

I wouldn't say its ripping-off other peoples designs as you are making some dramatic changes in parts - in the long run I think its much easier to make a website if you have a design you can tweak to what you want it to be like.

Edit: because all designs are not to everybodys exact taste.

I used to be pretty good at making HTML pages in Frontpage without copying designs. However the probably weren't the most proffesional thing you've seen lol

i see it the same as pirating a dvd ...... your taking someone's hard work & using it without paying ......

by creating your own designs your able to code it yourself & to say to ya self ....... i created this page myself ....... there is a lot of money in web design if you take the time to learn the code .......

disco i have some books you can borrow if ya need ......

I think the big difference here though.... I've never made any bold claim to be a web designer. I am however capable with the right tools, create pretty decent websites. I can also put back together a forum after someone has made a hash of it!!! :w00t: (Sorry - couldnt resist!!!)

A design might start up as someone elses work - but it certainly (normaly) dont end up that way!

i wasnt saying your not handy with tools but being the point of my comment was to say that being able to code in more than html & css helps ......

for example my latest job is a "clan" website....... where you can create a clan, recruit members and declare a clan war........

you couldnt do that in html ..... learning php is worthwhile
