Im with green flag and had them out last year with a good response time , as for cost they seem to be very competative depends on cover you want.

Green Flag do seem a good price - I think AA are really starting to take the p***

Open a Natwest Gold Bank account. 2x phone insurance, breakdown cover and unlimited travel insurance for only £12.95 per month.

Hmmmm that is £155.40 a year. My mobile phone is covered by my home insurance and I don't travel that much so I don't think it's worth it for me...might help someone else though...

I'm covered by the AA through lloyds tsb for, £7.50 a month with travel insurance and mobile insurance. Had my iPhone on my contents but didn't want to risk my no claims bonus. Also was a great deal more to cover the phone as you had to insure for valuables away from home.

Auto aid, £38 or something for the year full cover. The only downside you pay first then claim back, but if paying by credit card it should be through before bill.

Same as any insurance. They want to charge you more each year. Phone and ask for a better price. I paid £30 this year for basic breakdown cover. Freephone number. I think they are doing a deal at the moment that gives you a £20 boots voucher. Ask for that when you phone and when they tell you its for new customers say you will leave and join in the morning. Then you will be a new customer.

Gosh, AutoAid look really cheap for a great level of cover. I think I may have been won over. Do you know what happens if you don't have a credit card with you when you break down?

I pay £6.58 a month for RAC cover through Asda.
I've been with Green Flag before but my experience was that they were more likely to simply recover the car rather than fix it.

I'm replying to my own question in case any one else wonders....I rang AutoAid and asked what would happen if I broke down when I didn't have any means of payment with me. They said they would contact a garage that would be happy to invoice me, they said it may mean a slightly longer wait as not all garage offer that but I would never be left stranded. The woman I spoke to was really friendly and understanding. I've also discovered that the cover is £38 a year for me AND my husband and using any vehicle (including hubbies motorbike). This seems to be outstanding cover for such a great price.
There are a couple of other threads on here discussing them and lots of happy customers. I'd never heard of them before but they've got my custom now.
Thanks to everyone for the input...
