http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm

"In a licensed taxi or licensed hire car, if a child restraint is not available then the child may travel unrestrained in the rear. This is the only exception for children under 3, and has been introduced for practical rather than safety reasons. You should always think about ways to make sure that a child seat is available."

Put it this way DO YOU want to put your kid(s) in a car without a proper seat - in my opinion if you don't............

The question was - do taxis have car seats or does LLM have to take one with her.

Got a point there.........take the risks in a taxi with no proper child restraint and their life is no longer in your hands!!! Scary.......

i've never seen a baby seat in a taxi already. You'd have to take your own or use whatever restraint is there ( kinda scary ) and who knows if the driver would allow you to get in, they are free to refuse a fare if they want to, I think.

And where did i state that option?

Pre book the taxi and tell them of the situation. They must have situations like this sometimes.

Yes you can, if you as above sit the little one on your lap and strap the belt around. I would pre book one with a local firm and ask for a car seat to be provided, most taxi firms, have car seats to provide on request for pre bookings/airport pick ups.

The strapping a child in the same seat belt as a adult is a horrible thought. Even just a minor accident and the force of your body WILL crush the child beyond all repair.....been there seen it and its not a pleasant site for a prent to rearlise that they just killed their own child. Nobody should do the above...if risks are to be taken then give em their own seat belt it a better option than sharing......But in the end use a car seat...or get the train LOL

You ain't grasping this are you....in simple terms....is a car seat provided by the taxi firm, or do i take my own :) Simples :)

i worked for a taxi company and they didn't have any car seats apart from booster seats because they took children to and from school. never known a taxi firm to have proper car seats so if you can, take your own.
best bet is to ring different companies and ask them and pre book one.
by law children are allowed to travel in taxi's without car seats but NEVER put a child on your knee as this is more dangerous. (that last bit wasn't for you LLM )

Brilliant thanks a lot, will get looking for some Numbers and give them a ring. All for a ten minute car drive, hence no train :) Still i'd rather put myself in danger than my precious :)

Ive seen some of the latest black cabs with built in child seats, not suitable for group 0 though (up to 9-12 months)
