I want to connect my mp3 player and phone to my car stereo, it's a cd player / radio - no 3.5 jack or bluetooth

i know you can get fm transmitters but haven't heard great things about them. any other way to do it?

thanks

If there's no 3.5mm jack, bluetooth, USB or cassette input then an FM transmitter is your only option really unless your stereo has an aux input on the back that's not connected anywhere which is the case on my car. It's missing the 3.5mm input which was an optional extra but it's possible to manually solder in a cable onto the back of the head unit to fit a jack.

I did what johnmc17 has suggested.

My Renault 'Update List' headunit has unconnected points for aux input. I bought the appropriate mini iso connector, soldered a 3.5mm aux cable to it and plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Oh and I had to enable aux in a service menu too.

Check on your model to see if your headunit has it.

Could you point me to the right iso connector for a Clio on a 06 plate, I think it has the Update list. thank you.

If you do have the 'Update List' headunit and NOT 'Tuner List' then you need the green mini iso connector with at least 3 pins (for left, right and ground)

Its very simple to do.
Here is a pdf detailing it better than I have:
http://www.mp3car.com/attachments/hardware-development/27322d1143397970-renault-tuner-list-head-unit-cd-changer-hacking-controls-connect-aux-input-on-renault-update-list-hu.pdf

Don't forget to enable aux in the expert menu of the headunit too.

Sorry, I have the tuner list, I knew it was something list, It's just a single disc cd/radio.
Just my luck, Will have to go & get my blank CD's back out the bin.
Sorry for wasting your time & thanks for the help.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Toyotas (it's a VW based car I have) but I'd say it's worth asking on a Toyota forum as that's where you're going to get the most accurate advice.

It is possible to buy a connector for the Tuner List radio head unit, http://www.connects2.co.uk/c2search.aspx?catID=27&manID=225&modID=510 is a link to the connector for an ipod The connector plugs into the rear of the stereo where a CD changer would be connected, then the MP3 player is connected by a 3.5mm lead (or 3.5mm to 2 phone plug lead). The part number is CTARNIPOD003.2 and should cost around £50.

This is a link for a generic MP3 player, http://www.connects2.co.uk/c2search.aspx?catID=42&manID=225&modID=510 Expect to pay around £30. Do a search of CTVRNX001 on Google should throw up some suppliers.
