Does the USB stick have a red symbol next to it's label in the Windows Disk Management utility?

Right-click (My)Computer in the start menu, click manage and Disk Management should be in the left hand list.

or

Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management

or

Click start and type compmgmt.msc and press enter or diskmgmt.msc
