Hi,
My wife and I have been given some money and so want to take our kids on holiday. We have a thirteen year old and a two and a half year old.
We have been considering Palma or Alcudia in Majorca. Has anybody been to either of these destinations and would you recommend it for kids or not?

Does anyone have ideas for another place that would be good for kids?
We would like somewhere warm, within a three hour flight of London and we are hoping to go this year. All-inclusive, half board or self catering, we're not too fussed.

Many thanks for any input. (sensible answers preffered!)

menorca very nice and safe but quiet compared to majorca,

alcudia nice in majorca, lovely beach, some nice towns nearby such as puerto pollensa just a short bus ride away

We took our 15 month old (then) to Menorca - found that Island really does cater for younger ones especially.

i would recommend Majorca or Menorca for a family holiday, as you said short flights , not too hot (like Turkey, Greece etc) also go for all inclusive if you can, as eating out and the costs of drinks for young ones can be a crippler !! just make sure the hotel has a decent pool, entertainment ( esp if all inc ) , and some have kids clubs which can be a bonus !

have a great time

i went to Majorca with my son when he was about three and Palma was lovely my parents advised that Alcudia was also great, so i would recommend.

Id go Menorca over Majorca been both and Menorca is just a much more idilic island, we went self catering and every resturant had massive inflatable play things for the kids to play on they loved it plus gave us some peace and quiet to have a drink after dinner. We also hired a car as you can drive from one one to the other of the island in 45mins, some gorgeous beaches!

I have been to both, Safe beaches whichever resort.
Got back from Palma Saturday, went to Alcudia last year. Loved both.
Fab waterpark very near to Palma that they would love.
I would suggest all inclusive is the cheapest option. Book your flights and then accommodation through Travel Republic.
If you go to Palma grab a palma taxi.
I never do packages anymore is is more expensive.

Best holiday I ever had with my young son was in Majorca, Sa Coma. We stayed at the Bouganvilla in Sa Coma but see it has mixed reviews now. When we stayed there was tons of stuff for kids and also for adults - we had a brilliant time. As Tanya said, great waterpark in Palma and we went paragliding and on the water rides down at the beach - had a fabulous time!

alcudia is great for kids, been there 5 times and loved everytime, aint been back for 3 years due to money and recession and i really do miss the place, definetly recormend it,i always went self catering but wife never cooked, just had light breakfast then ate out all the time, made sure we got to see as much of alcudia as we could rather than be governd to all inclusive rules of being back at set times.only my preference though

Thank you all very much for your input and suggestions (I'm surprised to see no silly answers!) rep left for you all.
Alcudia sounds good to us. We're after somewhere that caters for our needs but we'd still like to see a bit of the island while we're there. Hiring a car is a good plan if it's only 45 mins across the island.
Whatever we decide, I'm sure we'll have fun. Thank you again.

P.S. I honestly mean no offence but this is slightly sexist as it is usually me who does the cooking and housework so it would probably be me who would prefer all-inclusive!

+1 for Alcudia. Jupiter and Saturno is a great all inclusive resort for families.

Agree with person who stayed in Bouganvilla (Sa Coma) - great for kids.

Bellevue in Alcudia is great too. Like Butlins in Spain!
