Anybody being plagued by wasps lately?

I've lost count of the amount of wasps I've had coming into the house the last week - averaging about 5 a day. One even landed in my hair this morning on way back up the road from nursery. Had a look outside in case there was a nest nearby but couldn't see anything. Are they mating or dying off? Anybody else been bothered by them?

That was my first thought but can't see any around the house, maybe in a neighbour's, though they only come in when the patio doors are open and really hoping that they aren't in the house somewhere!

I thought that too - the one in my hair dropped onto my top and it just stuck there - I was like a mad woman trying to get it off! They don't bother me normally but this one just wasn't budging, like it was half dying.

I HATE......... LOATHE........... DETEST..............these flaming things and can't wait till October every year when they all die!!!. They chase you and sting you for no reason whatsoever whereas a bee will only sting as a last resort and it must be really annoyed!

Do you live near Legoland?

check round your walls, I found them nesting in my cavity and were getting in using the air vents near the lintels over my doors

Last Monday, I woke up and went to the bathroom and found 10 dead or dying wasps!! My window had been closed and so had the bathroom door! I was brave and scooped them up and threw them out of the bedroom window. After my shower, I found another one! I have an expelair fan in my window and there is a small hole in a rubber surround!! Covered it with a clear elastoplast!!

Tuesday morning at 5am, went to the bathroom and there were 9 on the outside of the window!!! Had pest control out and no sign of a nest. Last night, there were 3 on the outside of the window. No one else is been plagued by them! I hate them.

Will do a thorough search I think, though they only seem to appear when the big patio door is open in kitchen so thought there may have been a nest outside somewhere. Normally wouldn't bother me but have a 4 and 2 year old and worried in case they pick them up or the blighters end up in a cup of juice or whatever (the wasps that is not the kids).

Had another 2 in the kitchen since last post - one was in the leftover strawberry pot of a fruit corner that my youngest had finished with.

The queen wasp has stopped feeding them so they leave the nest looking for an alternate source of food.

There are unusually high numbers of wasps around at present. As mentioned, Legoland has problems, as does Alton Towers, Sundown and many of the other places we have visited recently. Make yourself a trap with an old jar and some jam

Really? Probably explains why they've been hovering round my kitchen then!

Poor you - hope its ok now though? I've never been stung (touch wood) but really paranoid about the kids getting stung.

I may just do that - used to collect bees when I was younger in a milk bottle with some flowers in and wait until it was full of them then smash the bottle and run away! Sad but true X)
