1. A single used condom (not mine).
2. Two euros.
3. An empty crisp packet.
4. A strategically placed hypodermic needle.
#2
Why not hand it in now?

Threads on HUKD get indexed by google really quick, how awesome would it be if someone googled for 'Lost my wallet in halifax last night' and actually get it back? Unlikely, but still...you never know :)

edit: Just googled it, this thread is already on there, heh
#4
Who actually knows the contents of their wallet??

Wouldn't it be better to ask for the name of the person who lost it. Surely its on a card they had in it.
#5
It has a few cards in the wallet but they do not all belong to the same person, otherwise I would have stated a name.

I'm sure the person who lost 'this' wallet will know its contents, its got plenty of money in

Congratulations on finding the wallet of an identity thief.

actually I think they may related, possibley husband/wife, gf/bf ??

I want to make sure it goes to the right person because it has more than just pocket change.

You should get it to Police Station so they can get fingerprints - assuming its a fraudster.
#11
how much is in there? i lost my wallet today (******) just so happens i was in halifax town centre for the day
the wallet i lost had £50,000 in 50's is it this one by any chance?
#12
imho i dont think its a fraudster, its just because of the money and a personal note +photos in the wallet which drove me to submit this thread.
#13
Just drop it off at PS where they should find out who owner is pretty quickly ;-)
#14
I would hand it in now rather than wait a few days the owner has probably already contacted the police

I have an idea, why not be the detective.

http://www.192.com/search/people.cfm

You know they are going to be in your county, so you can use that to narrow it down. Two different last names will also narrow it down to a specific house/address. I would be surprised if you can't find out their details from the above website. Then you can, possibly; find out their telephone number and ring them or pay them a surprise visit.

Use their money to pay for it, I am sure they won't mind lol

Or you can use this one for free using information you found from 192:
http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/find/residential/residential_numbers.publisha

Worth a shot I guess.

If you contact one of the banks issuing the cards they will contact the person and arrange for them to visit the bank to collect it, I found a bank card outside our house a few weeks ago, I went into the bank and the bank called them whilst I was still there and I got a phone call from the bank later to say it had been collected.

I agree. It should be handed in now instead of waiting. The longer you wait to turn it in the worse it looks on you.
#18
What are you waiting for??? If its got bank cards in it needed to be handed in STRAIGHT away then they may not of needed to cancel them and be left without one while the banks sort new ones!! Instead your poncing about on ere with it!!!

lol how can it look bad on him hes hardly spending it or trying to spend it hes doing the honest thing.....Trying to save someobody else a job for a start.......

I lost my wallet and worried about it for 3 days before a council official who found it returned it with all the cash in it. he had tried to find my details out as well....and good on him i say.
#20
Says a bit about society today tho doesnt it, 10 years ago he would of handed it in without thinking twice straight away, nowadays he posts it on a forum first!!!! Holy cack!!!
#21
I was not saying he was doing anything wrong, I was just pointing out that the easiest way of contacting the owner was via the bank, the police don't always make a huge effort to trace owners, they often wait for someone to ask if its been found. Banks always contact the owner, usually the same day. This would be the quickest and probably safest way of giving it back. After all they have all the details available at their fingertips, no investigation needed.

Perhaps he's looking for some reward for being honest?

Personally I would have handed it into the nearest Bank where one of the included cards was issued from, got them to itemise all that was of value in it and give me a copy so the owner gets it back intact. Failing the banks being open I would have phoned the card issuers lost/stolen phone line and let them know I had it so the owner could be contacted by them to arrange collection either from myself or the nearest bank once open.
Holding onto it just means the poor looser has now had to cancel all the cards with all the grief that goes with that, like any regular monthly payments having to be rearranged.

That doesnt happen im sitting on a lost and stolen credit card line right this second we will cancel the card end of story....the rest we arnt bothered about (dont shoot the messenger im doing what im paid for)

The banks have no regard apart from the credit cards within.

Either take action via bank or hand in to the police. they have probably already contacted the police and are waiting for someone to hand it in. It could of been back in the owners pocket by now

Ditto - if it's already reported to police that is the way to get owner and wallet reunited.

By the way - if the notes are blue, purple and red it could be mine - do I win!!??
#26
The police are absolutely rubbish at returning items that are handed in- they'll stick it in a box and if nobody collects it, nobody collects it. They do not actively search for the owners nowadays, I had an interesting situation where they found something of mine that had been stolen (I had reported it and called them a few times to chase it up) and called to ask if I could identify the item via serial numbers, I did and was arranging to collect it, all of a sudden they admitted it had disappeared, and eventually after much prompting I found they had bloody sold it! In the end I got compensation from them, but it took a long time.

Looking up the person on the net is a much better idea. IIRC there's a thread where someone did that...
#27
Wow, skimmed read this thread and everyones slating the guy?

At least he's honest, thanks for that.

Handing it in to the police station is as billyx stated may not be the best way forward - take it in to the bank but i probably would have done the same thing myself - try to find the person myself because i would want to know the item got returned to its rightful owner rather than hand it in and get a piece of paper back

Things get lost very easily at a police station and this is from first hand experience.

Dont forget to take your 20% finders fee

As someone pointed out there is a google link to the page and is probably quicker than cops (who probably would have a few pints on the recovered wallet . . .).Plus there are a few cards - maybe hotukdeals will make the persons day

look at the time I posted this thread, it was quite early, I did hand it in early in the morning. I bet if you guys found it with £80.00 in it there would have been no way you have handed it in.

it had £80.00 in it, if I wanted a reward I would have kept the money and threw away the rest of the contents. The only reward I want and need is from my God, that is the only thing that is beneficial for me.

Thank You "nipperkipper" for your kind comments, if only everyone else was the same.

I found a post office receipt in the wallet where by the person withdrew some money (perhaps benefit money). I went to the post office and asked them if they knew this person, they said they did but did not know where they lived. So I left a letter for this person so that they know I have handed the wallet in at the police station.

Thats all I could have done and I have done it.

Heartwarming to read of a story like this where someone not only has been honest but has taken the trouble to try to locate the person who lost the wallet too.
