Heard about the soldiers getting abuse on their parade in Luton and was wondering how do we get a prime minister like this......

Prime Minister John Howard Australia:

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians'.

'This culture has been dev eloped over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'. 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Why should it?

I believe that is how it should be, in every country. It's nothing to do with racism or not accepting different cultures, it's about countries losing their identity trying to please everyone.

lol @ scardy cats.

He has a right to act like that.... I don't fully agree with it but I can see why he's doing it.

Overall I'm for it as long as things tone down after a while. E.g. Once things have cooled down spy agencies stop monitoring mosques unless they have a valid reason.

Freedom of speech ? don't make me laugh!

You might agree / disagree with the war in Iraq / Afghanistan etc but at the end of the day anyone who returns home from war deserves a welcome.

A welcome home is not a sign of triumph or support for armed forces at war, it is a sign that pepole in this country care for its fellow citizens and appreciate that families / friends / collegues etc will loose people they care about to war and are supportive towards the home return of them.

Protesters - protest all you want, I really don't care what your point is, Right or wrong.

The returning forces should parade with their heads held high. It was not their choice to go to war they are only doing what the vast majority of this country won't /didn't / couldn't do, that is fight representing their country.

I don't agree with the war but i'm very glad we have heroes who will do the job that i couldn't do.

Only it's not true he didn't say it neither did his successor who has also had it attributed to him. Check Snopes or just google a bit of it and you'll find out the truth. Then you can agree or disagree as you like, but sorry it's an urban myth folks

Here here!!!

Absolutely spot on in my opinion.
#22
dont agree with war, am muslim, but defo think it was the wrong time to protest...thos guys were serving their country and if u have a problem take it up with people who issued the war.

What bothers me about the protest is not that the Islamists held placards but shouted and cursed the troops. I think a silent protest would have sufficed. As on the day, if they do it again, they will bring increased resentment upon themselves. I wonder how long someone protesting against the protestors would be allowed to do so before being arrested for a hate crime.

i agree, i don't mind who lives here as long as thier beliefs aren't forced upon us. i've worked with lots of muslims who are great, but there are lots that have the belief that are culture is wrong and feel the need to tell us that, if you don't like it here then leave, very simple.

Total fools those protestors! Go Ex-PM John Howard!

Without a doubt one of the best speeches I have ever read!

About time someone stood up and said what everyone thinks. Mr. Brown should take a page out of his book.

Oh :-( thought we'd found someone with the balls to stick up for us then:roll: How gullible was I??

I read this speech a while ago and it was the 1st thing i thought of when the news came on about this protest in Luton and then my thoughts turned to a local soldier who was buried the same day here in Plymouth and what the family must have been thinking when they saw this report.

I am not going to make a comment about this protest as that is just what they want but the people of Plymouth have seen a funeral take place on average once a week for the past 6 weeks or so, very sad and my thoughts are with these families.

" as long as thier beliefs aren't forced upon us". You make it sound like everyone in their OWN country share the same beliefs and that is simply not true, there are many groups of people born in this country who's beliefs I would certainly not want to be generalised as having or sharing.

Reading in this mornings paper one protester Abu Abdullah was qouted as saying " I`ve been living in Britain most of my life but I dont consider myself British. I dont want to be associated with Britain".

Why is he still here if he hates this country so much?
