The HP is the better laptap but it depends what you are using it for... if its not a price issue the HP wins all day long

Dell are fantastic and my current laptop is dell and has lasted me nearly 4 years before looking like reaching the end of its life........

In what way is the HP better?

I'm drawn more towards the HP because it has a faster HD (7200rpm), a DVD DL burner (which I don't need but would be handy to not need to have to get out the external everytime i have a new xbox game!), Bluetooth and Wireless N and I can buy it and have it in my hands straight away. It does however have a worse processor but I don't play PC games anyways......

The other thing is If i go for DELL, I'm too tempted to upgrade the screen and the processor, at a cost of 120, but the limit on my credit card is 600 and I'd rather not go over that so I can pay it off bit by bit.....

Dell one is the 2.26ghz but intel i5 and OCs to 2.53
HP is 2.6 or 2.7 but AMD dual core......
Does processor make THAT much difference between these two?

And both have HDMI. but Dell one has a media remote which is nice..... but will realistically never use it lol

Is there that much difference in brand/ build quality/ longevity between HP and Dell?
Only difference I can see is that HP give 2 year warranty and Dell only one..... :(

Always gone for Dell. Never had a problem, apart from my brother treading on my laptop and breaking the screen...

the intel has a bigger cache 3mb compared to 2 :)... on top of the fact IMO intel is ahead of amd and spends a lot more on R&D :)

Intel one for me as much as i hate Dell build quality.

My last laptop was a dell. Slowed down until it was unusuable and had to be reformatted, battery died completely after six months, and after a year refused to charge anything or work from mains.

Now using a HP dv6 and love it to bits. Would never have a Dell again.

Dell all day long for me, my first laptop was a dell. I then had a FS amilo and an advent 6553, both nothing but trouble and ended up coming back to dell. Ive now got a dell 1750 and love it, wouldnt get anything else from now on.

Have owned both makes. Think that Dells run quieter and the fan for the graphics card on my HP dv-5 outputs downwards so makes the laptop too hot to use on my lap for long periods. Like the look of the HP's better though. If you use it on a desk all the time go for the HP otherwise Dell.

OK i'm gonna take everyone's advice and go for the dell.
Only question is do I stick with the i5 2.26 or upgrade to a higher i5 (50/70) or upgrade to an i7 1.6 (90)
Also, is it worth the 70 quid to upgrade the screen?
15 to upgrade to wireless n?
30 to get a backlit keyboard?
Would love your thoughts on this! Would really like this laptop to be good enough to last me 3/4 years, like my current one has but its so hard to resist the temptation to upgrade EVERYTHING! lol

Adding i7 720 QM would knock the laptops cpu up to 9th in the Comparison of Mobile Processors (CPU Benchmarks)
