I did that with my family 16 years ago (wow - that long!!) in a motorhome for a week although was in the area for a total of just over 2 weeks. As long as you get a day in Toronto and another at Niagra then the rest should be fine.

We drove a bit further north into Algonquin, across to Ottowa, down to the states and then back across the south coast of Lake Ontario.

May should be fine. About the same temperature at the UK then.

thanks for the advice, do you know if there is much else to see around the lake other than the falls then? would you recommend it whole heartedly?

cheers

It was 16 years ago and I have a bad memory!! lol!! You may get the best feedback on tripadvisor.com.

If the idea of Canadian wilderness is appealing to you then definately go to Algonquin.

Last summer we flew to Boston on a BA Special then used Jetblue from there to Buffalo (about £30 each) and hired a car at the airport and did Niagara and then on to Toronto. The flights to USA were a lot better value than those to Canada and car hire was very cheap too on the US side. I would definitely recommend Boston if you want somewhere else to visit.

hi we went to niagara fall ON (canada side) a few years back, we got a short flight from NYC into buffalo then a shuttle to niagara. From there we went to Toronto by coach with Greyhound. Toronto is only about an hour from Niagara so it easily doable for you.

You might be able to do it quite cheap too. If you can get a cheap flight to NYC, flights from NYC to Buffalo are only about £50 return with either Jet Blue or US airways, perhaps even have a few days in NYC before hand and pick up your hire vehicle in Buffalo and drive across to Niagara. We did it as part of a 6 week trip and had 4 days in NYC, 4 days in Niagara and 4 days in Toronto.

Canada is much more expensive than the USA though, more similar to English prices

May wouldn't have warmed up yet so you'll get spring weather but there can be some very nice warm days, so like summer here :p May 24 weekend is a bank holiday weekend (Queens birthday) and is typically a signal for gardeners to get planting since there should not be any more cold snaps at that point.

The falls would be a few hours drive, so do-able as a day trip from TO. Try to plan it so you're around for the lights at night. You might consider staying over night at Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is close by to the Falls and quite nice as a couple to see. You could also pop across the boarder into America into Buffalo, but IMHO its quite ***** just across the boarder.

When you say drive round the lake, I hope you don't mean to literally drive a loop around the lake and just to do day trips in the area around Lake Ontario.

Went there 20 years ago, Niagara is a must see, but from memory the rest of the area around it is nothing special. Thought Toronto was a really cool city with an easy going vibe and plenty to do, would allow a couple of days for there.
