I live in a very big, very drafty student house that still has snow on the front mat that we brought in on our shoes yesterday and it's that cold here that it's not melted. We rarely have the heating on. It's called Uggs, jumpers, scarves, gloves, hats... :p

sounds like you should have got a better house. Our student house is too bloody hot! Huge double rad in my huge room. brand new double glazing put in the summer just gone, alongside utility bills inclusive thus dont care when the heating is on! :-D

Unless you're ill or an OAP why on earth would you have it on 24/7:?

Yes I think you'll find only the short ones are £120 ;) So what if I spend money on a pair of boots? I can't carry a radiator around with me all day to keep me warm, can I?

alot of people believe it is cheaper to kleep a house at a certain temp, rather than reheating home every time you turn it off and then back on, i drop mine down to 15 at night so the house doesnt fall below that, and it probs may kick in very early hours

I've heard people say that before,i'm not convinced it works though.

trust me this house gets cold quick , council left a little gap at bottom of door frames so cold air soon fills up the stairs and landing , need to get them out :x
#23
It is better if you have a room stat and leave at 19oC never move it your heating bills will be cheaper thus the boiler is only on and off for little times not on for ages trying to get the room temp up
#24
I rang my provider at tea time today with a new reading and asked them to check i was paying the correct amount and they said I was...I pay monthly DD gas is £35 so I hope it stays at that.

bloody hell im lucky if my house reaches that :w00t:

Im dreading my bill. Ive been using my real fire in the lounge to try and help but to be honest it costs just as much to fuel the fire.

Oh and I couldn't get coal today at focus because ' health and safety' wouldn't let them get the coal from out the yard! :x

I don't have a room stat.

Even with the heating on for hours it's never reached 70 degrees.

was very cold here (south east) but house seemed warm enough..
perhaps it was because i used the week to do a lot of DIY that kept me warm.
heating is designed to pop on if it drops below a certain temp in the winter anyway - lot easier to keep the house warm that way instead of starting from freezing.

70 are you wanting a steam room lol

19 is just right for anyone.

Look ay your boiler, google it then see if you can get a room stat if its takes one.

A few things to check your heating, if private rent check when last serviced (the landlord pays for this and its the law)

Make sure the heating pressure is above 1 bar
Check the rads are hot at the top as well if not bleed them

Boiler is two years old,i always check the pressure is over one bar, bled the rads recently and they have thermostats on them anyway so i doubt i need a room stat either.

we've moved into the living room for the last couple of weeks, massive gaps in the windows.....finally putting in new windows tomorrow morning:)

i like to keep on top of the bills so i rand and gave them meter reading last week and receieved new bill yesterday

i would advise people to check their tariffs because when we signed up with scottish power we took a no standing charge bill with dual tarriffs and after checking the bill we have been shifted onto the most expensive tariff they have with a standing charge since last may.

rang them today to make a complaint and ask whats going on and they are redoing the bill and backdating our original tariff to when they changed it. apparently a direct debit was cancelled or some nonsense excuse.

strangely the same thing happened with british gas as well before we changed over

Never had central heating at home when i was a child, not until my teens did we get it,no double glazing either,i'm used to wearing lots of layers.

At the moment i've got 3 on lol
