Ok here's the deal, my OH bought an ipod touch a few months back, paid for it cash from comet. After a few months it developes a power button fault, it became very sensative just resting your finger on it would cause it to lock.

Took it back to comet to get it looked at and the manager said we could be liable for the repairs. I asked him to inspect it for any scratches or signs of damage. He said and wrote on the repair job sheet condition was "as new".

Nearly 6 weeks later and comet tell us apple are holding the ipod till a £60 repair fee is paid. Comet say their going to pay it as if their doing us a favour! What exactly do you pay £170 for? something which you can use incase it developes a manufactures fault?

So annoyed with the customer service, i would of taken it apart and replaced the switch but why should I when the product is weeks old.

Anyone with any advice, should of bought a cheaper one from ebay that i could repair myself when it goes wrong and not have to worry whether apple are going to generate unecessary bills.

No.

I think you will find 'Comet' are thieves

You should have taken it straight to apple, they would have changed it on the spot.

yep-and comet should have too if its within guarantee-your contract is with the supplier, not the manufacturer-you should have demanded a replacement on the spot.

Comet are thieves yes - if you have been honest in your original post, I absolutely cast iron guarantee that a single trip to an apple store would have resulted in you leaving with a new/refurbed as new ipod touch.

Apple stores are brilliant.

It did cross my mind but i thought, but i thought that if with consumer law if a repair is smaller than the cost of a new one they have to repair it.

When you pay full retail price from a high street retailer you shouldn't have to have these problems, blood pressure should not have to be raised too.

Bought a washing machine from comet a few years back. Within a month it had a fault and I called out Hotpoint to fix it as the comet repair centre was closed for xmas. The repair guy from hotpoint said he shouldn't repair it as comet do not buy a waranty from the manufacturer but fix everything in-house as its cheaper. He fixed it anyway, but never bought anything from comet since. Wonder if they have done the same with apple?

I went down to comet to get the contact details of the "apple repairs" it had been sent to and it turns out it was sent to some computer repairs place! So it wasn't being repaired by apple at all.

An hour after giving the manage a serious talking to he rung to say apple had just sent a brand new one back instead of the original one which wouldn't be back for weeks. (More like he just took a new one off the shelf).

So all sorted now, will def take it straight to apple if another fault arises.

Apple would have switched it out in store, or they pick it up from your house and get it back within a week, this is nothing to do with apple you just failed miserably at sorting the problem.

Failed miserably by taking back to the place i bought it from.....oh yeah how stupid of me.

apple does charge a bomb for repairs but considering
its the a new one should be free ideally replaced with a new one!
