We normally last until November before switching the GCH on but seems decidedly chilly today! Nothing a jumper wont fix I suppose.

#4

Yes been on for a few days now and i was shocked to have to find the car needed de-icer yesterday the temp at 6am Thursday morning was 1.4 degrees at the moment its 10.9

We've lit our fire three times this week to warm the house up, only had wood on it so far though not coal, so as we seem to get loads of wood free its only cost us a few pennies to run the pump. We have literally had strangers knock on our door and say "You have a solid fuel fire, do you want our old fence, these old pallets etc".

Last year even managed to snag 20 bags of coal for half price on ebay from someone who had their fire took out but had a stock in of coal! When you are talking £15 a bag normally a £150 saving is not to be sniffed at!

I love having a coal fire as it warms the house up quickly and in winter when its cold outside you can leave it ticking over overnight so its still warm when you get up! No need for thicker duvets!

Came back from florida to find that our central heating is on the blink, it wont come on at all. Ive been walking round fully clothed with a big fluffy dressing gown over the top!

Now we've got the horrible job of trying to find someone decent to come and sort it out

nowt wrong with that mate. I must get it a lot warmer down here as the I live 100 yards from the beach and 100 yards from a river in Sussex so get a lot of warmer air coming off the sea.

In winter, I hardly ever have to use de-icer yet travel across the river going north 1 mile and all the cars are massively iced up.

Just got my gas bill from 5 July to 24 September through the door - it's only £3.50!!! That's based on an actual reading too, not a mistaken estimate! I have an electric shower and oven, so the gas is only for the hob until the heating goes on! I've been boiling water on the hob for washing dishes, rather than heating the hot water tank - guess it does save energy! Even more reluctant to start the heating up again now!!

I've put on the storage heaters in the living/dining room. I can't function if I get cold.

Yeah but what is your electric bill gonna be ? lol

I wouldn't have thought it was cheap to keep putting an electric hob on.

My hob is gas. But the electric shower is a nightmare!! If only I can squeeze into the washing up basin after the dishes I'll be sorted!!

The new boiler has been fired up for heating..... but only 'cos its a new boiler that was installed a week ago!

Our house (luckily) is incredibly warm. Often we dont even put any heating on during the winter, except maybe a gas fire in the extension. Just dont need it. Besides..... I still haven't worked out how to use the thermostatic controller panel!
#39
i slept with the fan on and with just a sheet last night though.....pregnancy keeps u warm! :p hubby was complaining about how we need to get the winter quilts out.... meh!

Ours has been on a little bit the last couple of nights. My car was frosted over Thursday morning so that must be a sign the CH is needed.
