Make sure you get the name of who you speak to and keep repeating their name back so they know you have the details. (Dont accept a Christian name.... I'm sure there are lots of Tracy's working there - get surname and department or contact number.)
#3
weird. once phoned to query cancelling, didnt actually cancel, yet still got cut off! lol

I cancelled mine the other day, well, gave them the 31 day notice.

Got my letter in a few days later confirming it will be finished on the 10th march.

Yeah im getting charged £50 for this month, but the woman one the phone spent 15 mins convincing me to go for a 6 month option with half price everything apart from hd.
#9
Haha.

They offered me two deals

a) 25% off for a full year, not including HD.

b) 50% off for 6 months, but the remaining 6 months full price.

I said, thats the same deal technically. Haha. Guy said "oh, so it is". I got a free HD box with free install last March, and free HD Subscription for a year, so I said to them, "if you cant match that, Im offski". So thats me offski! :)

Ive heard of people cancelling then taking it out on another name?

Point 1 - cancel your DD at the bank - they will contact you before the day is out!!
Point 2 Not only do you need to get the name (Christian AND Surname) PLUS more importantly establish which centre you are speaking to - when i just quoted a name to them, they asked me where the call came from as there were loads of them and "we can't tell you where all our staff work from"!
#15
I.e if they ask just say youve moved in and the dish was already here.

Will my credit history be likely affected by this? cancelling the DD

When i had sky for a period of 12 months, and was due to sell our home, i telephoned and cancelled so that it didnt "automatically" renew into another 12 month contract. Had a letter confirming this from Sky themselves. Thought nothing else of it. I had my mail redirected to my new home, and had several letters from sky asking why i hadnt paid, and x amount was being charged due to late payments etc. I explained my balance was 0 when i closed my account etc etc. It took me 12 months to actually get it sorted, even though i had letter after letter saying it was closed, also emails, phonecalls, yet every time i spoke to a different person at Sky, they all were telling me different information.

They are by far the worst customer services i have ever known, its not that the phonecalls costed an absolute fortune, as i hadnt found "saynoto0870" at that point! But i will never go back to them ever again. So if i was you i would 100% try your best to make sure it is 100% cancelled! As even though you may get a letter it doesnt mean its cancelled....well not in my case anyway :)

I already think that this may be a long option. Cancelling DD may be the step forward.

I would definately cancel your direct debit, the only thing you need to watch out for is, even though it wont be your fault if they dont do as you ask, but it leaves a nasty mark on your credit file, which is wrong! Because you have cancelled therefore should not be penalised! Im still trying to get the naughty mark off, but its soo difficult when speaking to Sky as there not English People, and i find they dont understand what i say half the time :(

I had that same problem with Virgin. They tried to bill me for line rental and calls on dates after I'd already left and rejoined BT. Each month a new bill would arrive. Each bill, I'd be assured it was a mistake and it was now sorted. I thought nothing of it until about 3 years later applied for an interest free loan on a new leather 3 piece suite and got declined. That wonderful company had applied a "bad payer" on my credit rating.

Virgin make sky look like saints.

I disagree, i think Virgin are soo much better than Sky, such better deals, great customer services, never had a problem, and if i have had any problem with my service theyve been quick to fix it and also reimburse me. An example would be my internet went down for approximately 1 hour, and i telephoned and asked what the situation was, they stated it was due to pipe works in the area, and it would be fixed as soon as possible, they then credited my account with £20 just for the inconvenience, and by the time i put the phone down, internet back up and running! :) Also i also use my "brain" and speak to cancellations when due to end contract, and the deals they offer are amazing, just to stop you moving over to sky :)

I dont care if you disagree or not. The scum known as Virgin filed falsely to a Credit reference agency just because I left and wasn't tempted by their "please dont leave us" tactics.

Oh and my current Sky HD deal is 1/2 price for 12 months with no HD charge and included free box (which is mine not rented)

Oh and my ISP dosnt throttle downloads like Virgin does.

Sky have appalling customer service, any problems ask to talk to a manager or you'll end up calling them over and over again.

I phoned Sky yesterday after my bill for feb was shown as £52.73 and I already cancelled at the end of January as contract is due to end this month. The first lady I spoke to said that all they could do was for me to pay the full amount and they would credit the difference back to my sky account. I said I couldn't afford to pay the full amount. She stated that you have to cancel 14 days before your new bill is generated... mine was generated on 10th feb and she just stated there was nothing else she could do.

I wasn't sure what exact date in January I cancelled so just ended the call as she wasn't much help and said she couldn't see when I had made the cancellation.

I checked my phone bill and saw that I had made calls to sky on the 24th January to cancel, so phoned up again to state that I did cancel more than 14 days before my new bill was generated. The person I spoke to this time was much more helpful and said yes I had did all the right steps to cancel and downgrade and had a word with her manager and as a gesture of goodwill they credited my account with the full amount of £52.73... so I won't have to pay anything this month :)

Hmm got phoned up as a check to see if anyone had followed up my escalation and i said nope, i was then offered a 12 month half price sky deal again along with free sky hd, although they will be adding it tomorrow, and phoning me up again? could be a result lol.

My current Sky contract seems fine, but my last one was a pain as like you I cancelled and they claimed I hadnt(yet my "debt" was only going up by a small amount every month) I,e cancelled in July, no longer even had Sky box in property and then even as far as Janurary following year got bills from them even though I stopped reciving channels in August and I was actually in credit with them!

I remember contacting customer services and being told that it has now been cancelled but I owed them £32.

Theyre going to credit my account, so i pay the £50 odd quit and then credit it with £17.50 next month. Although they keep referring to me as a new customer now :/

I had a call from some sky repair plan, the girl wouldn't stop yapping so I put the phone down on her.

I think everyone at some stage or other has problems with either sky, bt or virgin as i've read horror stories about all 3, we are also with sky and have been for several years and have had our share of various problems but we've had very little compensation back for the problems, i think i'm just not complaining in the right way, i need to threaten to leave then i might get some offer like people are getting.
#33
Just phoned to cancel my Sky TV too, (i was on same deal as you), they offered 6 months half price, but i declined. Waiting for the phone calls now.
