Is it as good/easy as they make out?
#3
Its easy to buy one yes :)

What do you want to do with it ;)

Exactly what u think (_;)

To use as freeview channels only of course?!!!!! lol

yes its easy...ish. If your buying it already setup be careful, your channels probably will freeze.

You need to find a reputable seller...i

I had one but got fed up pretty quick with it, if you have little bit more money go for a Vu+ Solo or DUo much better box.

A little more money, are they not about £130 and £200+ more respectively?
So about 3.5 and 5 times the price of the openbox?

If you are after a cheap box that is easy enough to set up and works then they are fine. If you want more advanced features then have a look at more expensive options.

Really depends what you want it to do though.

EPG is pretty much out the window with openbox. OK for now and next on current channel. Beyond that then it's t'interweb/paper for your listings.

cheers for the response, not sure if i can ask this due to forum rules but hey...
the boxes i have seen say free 12month free gift, which i know what this means but what will happen after the 12 months? and what can you do about it? or is the box dead

Agree with beerdrinker with regards to EPG,can be frustrating but not the end of the world.Personally I'd recommend just buying the box on its own(ebay very cheap) then get your "gift" elsewhere with a bit of google homework.

the 12 month free gift depends what servers there using. Most are crap so you will get constant freezing.

After 12 months you find another person selling the sub or stick to the same one. It will require you to edit the settings in the menu of the box slightly. Nothing too complicated.

I've used a few, very handy for storage but especially good when moving house.

this
I would buy the box and look elsewhere for any extras. I wouldn't pay more than a few months at once in case the server owner disappears.

Nightmare manual with supplied with Openbox unless you speak English/Chinese/Gibberish. Got mine working with the help of Youtube; however, was limited to about 120 channels (No Cbeebies for the kids). I have been playing around with it and managed to link it to my WiFi (need an additional WiFi dongle to do this @ £8.95 from Amazon). Anyway, after doing this with lots of struggling I now have 1075 channels (many of them scrambled). I have no idea how I managed to get these channels and not sure it was the result of linking my box to my Wifi) so I can't give any advice other than state that when it works the picture is brilliant (I have taken a single LNA feed from my now disused Sky dish to the Openbox)

If you don't know this, it was pointless buying one to be fair.
