Anyone experienced building a mame cabinet?

Has anyone here ever built one of these? Looking to build one from scratch and got a few questions, found various plans for the cabinet, got a spare pc to build it around.

Main questions are:

Is LCD monitor or CRT best? my thinking is CRT as this is like the old machines had anyway so keeping it authentic, also more kiddy proof.

and, what did you do about controls? Seen some keyboard hacks but they are beyond me and my soldering skills, seen some adaptor harnesses that connect via PS2 port on the PC and have terminals to connect to the buttons and joysticks, but for this and the buttons looking at around £65 (eBay prices), is there a cheaper and/or better option? (bearing in mind my soldering skills are poor.

Never built one, but it sounds cool!
I personally would go for an LCD monitor and add plexiglass window if you want to make it kiddy proof.

Google 'Mame Cabinet' and you'll find plenty of examples.

I looked at this about 2 years ago, really fancied it it but just didn't have the time or cash. Let me know how you get on.

Doh! Now I feel dumb, I have 3 of these all modded too, I'm assuming the roms would work the same? I also have the arcade stick for the xbox.

I have all the emu's too and can easily get a TV to hook it up to on the cabinet from freecycle.

How about buying an old arcade machine and modifying the internals?
There's a few on eBay for £1 but not sure how much they go for at the end?
Here's a BIN for £75 [Item number: 120556730855] if you can find one locally it's got to be cheaper than DIY'ing one?

Thought about that, but for some stupid reason would prefer to build the cabinet from scratch, so it fits where I want it, and is the right height for a bar stool.
