Anyone flown First Choice / Thomson from Gatwick lately?

Just wondering if they still have their horrendous checking in process where all flights go to the same desks. Last time we queued for about an hour starting from outside in the rain!

Wouldn't have been so bad had it not been that anyone who turned up late went straight to the front of the queue.

Might try the same approach if things haven't changed.

Any comments / ideas for a speedy checkin appreciated.

Thanks.

we swore blind we would never go near FC / Thomson again after last year but just got the booking through from a vuilla booking and we have been lumbered with first choice again.

I just cannot fathom their customer service if they think people are happy to queue for an hour plus BEFORE you even get to gatwick security which can take up to another hour!

Thanks god BAA are being forced to sell gatwick

We went in March and though there were CRAZY queues the airport had this 'speedy checkout' machine thingy right in the middle of the check-in hall.
It is just computers (no person) and you scan your ticket or passport and it prints something out which you can take to the much smaller Thomson check-in queue, just for people who have used the computer check-in (smaller as in 2-3 people as opposed to 100+) in the other queue. Then you are just queing to give your bags basically.

So look out for the computer place in the centre, it was behind the Thomson desk when we went

Thomson Airways
That is exactly the problem with uniqueues. Those who come late get preferential treatment. I know TOM do 4 hour check in's, if you wanted to get there that early.

Yes, we flew from Gatwick in June/First Choice and experienced the uni queue system. Were very annoyed when late arrivals were pushed to front of queue:x......... no apology given to us organised folk who plan & arrive early as requested. Very frustrating! Also crew on board very tired & disorganised......Tui/first Choice need to get their acts together....customer service & staff training need reviewing desperately

pre-books seats and get there late

i hate gatwick in general - heathrow is so much nicer with smaller queues and better shops!! Gatwick needs to be much bigger!!

Yes went with First Choice from Gatwick on 28th August ... got there early so no queues whatsoever, there was several check-in desks too, was quite impressed !
(About the only good thing I have to say about First Choice though!!)

pre-books seats and get there late

but that doesnt make any difference. pre-booking just guarantees you sit together

you still have to queue to get your bags checked in

is this available to anyone? if so, why do people queue if they can use this machine?

Gatwick or the new heathrow terminal?

I absolutely love T5.... like fast bag drop through security and sitting down in departures within 7 minutes.

went last year, four hours queueing I'm never going to that airport AGAIN!

we were told we couldn't use the machines, and because the queue was so long people kept queue jumping :x

Flew home Sunday into Gatwick - left 7 days earlier, no queue at check in and little delay at security (10 minutes right through)...maybe, just maybe they are getting their act together....forgot to mention....we flew Easy Jet!!

the point is you dont need to arrive early so you will be sat together, so turn up late, get pushed to front of queue and still have seats together, most people that turn up that late dont care that they wont be sat together:thumbsup:

This was in Gatwick South terminal.

We weren't in special seats or anything, some airport workers (not Thomson workers) were just taking people out of the HUGE check-in queue and sending them over to the machine - I was the first to move away from that queue!

Unfortunately, because I had only just picked up my tickets it wouldn't work for me but the people just told me still to go over to the fast check-in because I complained that I would have lost my place in the queue by then!

This was with Thomson and seemed like a permanent fixture, sorry can't help more than that but look out for it.
